New to this forum and don't yet own a Tacoma. I have been looking for a 2016 - 2018 TRD off-road and recently came across a 2018 SR5 Off-Road. The decal on the bed said SR5 Off-Road and underneath it spelled out Toyota Racing Development. I have been looking on the web and on youtube for any information on this truck. I can't find anything. In fact, it doesn't look like the SR5 was offered in an off-road package. ANy insights on what this truck would have as features would be helpful. It's local so I plan to check it out in person next week, but in my experience, the salespeople at the dealerships are likely not going to be very helpful.

    SR5 is a trim level.

TRD Off-Road is a trim level.

SR5 Off-Road is a sticker somebody got on Ebay slapped onto the side of their truck to mimic the TRD Off-Road badging.

At best it's an SR5 and not an Off-Road.

The Off-Road will have a tumor on the rear diff with some wires coming out of it, that's the rear locker motor and the main difference and or easiest visual indicator between a SR5 and an Off-Road.

Don't let them try to up charge you on a base SR5 or let them call it a TRD when it is not.

The SR5 is a great truck, but if it doesn't have a rear locker it's not a TRD Off-Road, not that the locker makes it a better truck.

    That definitely an aftermarket sticker.

After market sticker. Toyota does not make SR5 off road packages. They make TRD off road, TRD Sport and TRD Pro

The neighbor mentioned last evening that he put money down on a "SR5 Trail Edition DCLB" . In Army Green.

I looked it up on-line. Specs are much like the TRD , V6, and rear locker etc.

Of course the dealer doesn't HAVE one, but they are looking. $41K, He has a trade in Avalon in the pot.

I thought this thread was about whether an SR is capable Off Road!

Any 4x4 Taco is more than capable. The TRD Off Road & Pro, just have more Off Road Capabilities, hence the price differences.

Not much of a tumor on the 3rd gen since there's no motor but a solenoid integrated inside the diff. There is, however, wires, connectors, and a cover visible above the pinion on the passenger side.

Nah, I didn't either, but he's a good guy and I didn't want to say anything.

The dealer sales people will say just about anything ;-)

"It's a limited edition TRD SR5 Off-Road with suspension, off road tires, and a touchscreen! Also climate control." - dealer, probably.

Yeo, you can tell its a aftermarket sticker because toyota doesnt use colored vinyl stickers, they use a clear sticker with the writing printed onto it.

Yep, learned that when I was doing a cut on my truck shortly after I got it and realized I was burning through the red on my TRD bed decal.

After hitting a couple trails, I stopped giving a shit about the paint. As long as it ain't Rusty that's all I care about.

Actually, It's my neighbor telling me he put money down on a NEW truck.

Anything more than that is just what is provided on the Toyota web site after typing in "SR5 Trail Edition".

Locking rear diff seems nice, but I hear that the pumpkin is small. Oh Well...
