Tried buying DayQuil at Target and they wouldn't sell it to me without scanning my driver's license. I was told it was a state rule. Bought it at Walgreens instead... for some reason they didn't need to scan my DL.

To be fair, but I was working at a gas station people would flip out when we scan their driver's licenses for liquor or tobacco purchases. Literally the system just looks for a birthday. In that case anyway... We could get around it by manually typing in a birthday but the cameras needed to see us "looking at IDs" Just see if they needed to fire any of us.

Oddly enough, that company no longer has any stores in my area because of shitty management

I hate having to show ID for beer. Listen if some 20 year old looks like me, GIVE HIM THE FUCKING BEER! (The poor kid needs it.) I don't know why stores require ID from everyone, just to be fair, not hurt someones feelings, stupid cashiers with no eyes or judgement? Back when I was 21 (you know it's a long time ago when someone starts a sentence with back when) I was a checker at a grocery store. I only carded people that looked underage. If I carded someone that looked like current me, they would have gone full Karen, and I would have deserved it.

 

Current laws are different than they were back then. And the last thing you want to do is have a criminal charge because you didn't ID and undercover cop. I know it's dumb but that's the reality we currently live in. Obviously some places are worse than others but still... How hard is it to pull out your ID for a hot second?

 

It's just the current world we live in where the 1% trying to do something wrong put a big inconvenience on the 99% just trying to get through their day.

Thanks to the druggies you now need to show ID to buy spray paint, and heaven forbid you need a decongestant.

 

The 5 seconds it takes to show your ID is real inconvenient.

The point is the law requiring everyone to be carded is a WTF.

I get that underage drinking and smoking are terrible things, but the check everyone laws don't really fix the problem. Like I said there is no fucking way I could be mistaken for someone under 21. I also get how people working retail have a shitty job. It was a shitty job when I did it. I also get that law makers think people working shitty jobs are not as smart as they are, and pass stupid laws requiring them to ask everyone for ID.

 

To be young again when you couldn't wait to get carded.

 

We used to have a delicatessen guy who sold us beer. He just asked if we were 21, and we said sure. He eventually got popped.

 

And almost certainly was popped because someone he did that for bragged about it to the wrong person.

Today they would post about it on FB.

 

He got away with for a while. Sammich sales were down. For about six months he even had an underage guy deliver it to houses because too many guys with 10 hair mustaches and beards were walking out with beer.
