Searched around and couldn't find the answer..... Bought my daughter a used 2016 Rav4 last year and it needs new rear brakes. I am pretty familiar with doing brakes but this is the first time I have done a Toyota in several years. Last time was a 1996 Camry and I remember we had to use Toyota pads to keep them from squealing. Is that still the case? If so, do I need Toyota brand rotors as well? Where is a good place to buy them?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with Rav4s, but I have an 04 Tacoma and have never needed to use Toyota brakes to avoid squealing. I don't think that's a thing to be honest, I would just get whatever brand you like. Should be fine

All vehicles are prone to squealing, from cheap pads to not properly cleaning the rotor surface. OEM brake pads for most Toyotas are Akebono. About $60 last time I checked; not too bad a price. Two years ago I changed pads in sister's Lexus NX200T. It had 70K miles and I only changed the pads. The tricky part was working with the electronic parking brake. That adds a bit more steps to go through but I prevailed. My sis did report some squeaking when backing up but that only lasted about 200 miles. There should be enough surface material on the rear rotors/drums to resurface them. If the RAV4 has rear disc and an electronic parking brake system, look at some utube videos; there are two methods to removing the electronic calipers, if so equipped.

Looks like Akebono's are the same price as the dealer charges for Toyota branded pads.

Dealer prices actually look pretty good for rotors too. Thanks for the help.
