tiny_livin_big_trippin I think your floor pad looks great. Let us know if it makes a difference and how it holds up. Great idea!

That problem with all the heat rising so that your floor is freezing and the loft is roasting is similar to a-frame houses with lofts. I saw a clever remedy for that and it might work in a Kimbo. They had a small pipe that ran vertically with an intake at the top and outlet at the bottom. A tiny fan sucked the hot air down to the floor level where it was needed. Or you could hang an insulated curtain to close off the sleeping area when you go to bed.

I have a Maxxfan in my trailer that has a "ceiling fan mode" that pushes the warm air down towards the floor (with the lid closed) - I know a few of you have mentioned that the maxxfan is an option for the Kimbo. It seems like it would work very well in a small interior...

this is what I’ve installed to fix the heat stratification and we’ve been having good luck so far, it’ll be put to the test in a couple weeks and I’ll report back.

Has anyone put spray foam insulation inside the door yet?

Nope - as far as I can tell, mine has a solid slab of rubber-ish material in it - don't see any voids for insulation.

We are making a warm door cover for it though and should make a huge difference. It'll snap into place on the inside of the door and also have openings for the window and the handle (probably flaps that velcro out of the way when using the door/window).

Question for all you Kimbo/Tacoma owners. Do you ever wish you had a Tundra instead of the Tacoma? Looking at the bed length, width and depth it seems like you would have a bit more storage space around all sides of your Kimbo with a Tundra.

I’m also wondering if any current owners have the new Dometic DM 50CD fridge Kimbo is currently installing? If yes, how do you like it? Does it have enough space for 4-5 days? How does the 1440 ecoflow battery perform with it? Trying to decide if I want to add it to my order as that option has changed since last fall.

Thanks for the help. Hope it’s snowing wherever you are. High and dry in Wyoming.

    Hi WY 4x4,

I have a full size truck with a 6.75' bed and I really like all the extra side space, I put skis, camping chairs, gas cans, surfboards, dirty stuff, and all sorts of other things on the sides. I also like having a larger engine for hauling dirt bikes or whatever. I could have gone with a larger camper made by another company, but I am really happy with the Kimbo, its built really well, keeps me warm in really cold places and is more than enough for the two of us. I do not have any experience with the Dometic DM50CD, it seems like Kimbo has been trying out different fridges for awhile now. The little one I have does ok, although in cold environments its tough because we try and heat the Kimbo with the Dickenson but then this makes the electric fridge work harder and we go through the battery. The cooler seems to work just fine with nothing more than a bag of ice and draining it once in awhile.

    All the best.

Kimbo's floor plan really utilizes as much of the Tacoma's bed as possible. So a larger one would provide with some really useful storage. On the other hand I don't miss what I never had and can make due just fine with what I bring. A Tundra or any other full size may be in the future a few years down the road, but not for more storage, for more fuel efficient travel. Something in diesel would be nice.

Put the finishing touches on the mini book shelf and USB charger. Used some brass sheets I had left over with some of the corrugated metal for the back plates. There is a switch for the power when it's not in use. Now I have a place to charge the phone, hold the light remote, and set a cup of coffee down. I might add a little hook for the heater remote too. Don't know if I need to add anything else but I think this is a good start.

Hey, I know I'm a slow learner but just in case anyone else has noticed that keeping the bed made holds in a huge amount of cold...if you have the heat on - the bed should not be made or else you'll be climbing into an icebox of a bed when beddybye time comes. pro-ish tip...

Trip Report: The Kimbo works in the dunes. All systems worked great. The windows are really good at keeping the sand out during big sand storms.

Looks like an awesome trip! nice photos. How are you liking that switchhauler? I have one on order... it almost looks like it could be modified to double as stairs when the bike is off.
