The raptor has the 3 "ID" lights because it is over 8' wide. By regs the ID lights are to be at the top of the vehicle. Just like you see on all semi tractors and trailers.

As for mounting my current idea (because I'm not a fabricator) is to attach the light to a trailer plate bracket under the bumper.

Ahh, that makes sense. I knew the side marker lights were on there for the width but did not realize the top marker lights were required for the same purpose. Learn something new everyday!!

I hear ya on the fab skills. Thats why I always keep old license plates. Easy to bend, drill and cut to at least make a template or test pieces.

Curious to see the running temperature on the light like was mentioned in the CPForums. I don't expect it to be high, but mostly just curious. I'm looking at adding additional running, brake and turn signal lights to my Victory Cross Country since people don't pay attention very well. That's why I was looking into the LEO lighting since it's discrete, likely wouldn't look tacky depending on placement, plenty bright enough if ran at full power (which I wouldn't) and generally very reliable.

I no longer have access to the temp gun I thought I could use so won't be adding anything there other than this. After running for 20-25 minutes inside the cab of my truck I could feel no warmth on them at all. About what you would expect since it is a 3w light.

If anyone is interested, I got a little more completed on my project. Might end up going with two LPB on each side as opposed to the current idea of one LPB (red) and one LPR (white).

And if you want to know what the little holes are for on the end, those will be additional parking lights. Red to the rear, amber to the side.

If it was me I'd do one of each as you will use the reverse light way more often. What did you make the mount out of?

I'm not going to post whatever I do after seeing those mounts.

It’s aluminum. 1 1/4” X 1 1/4” channel. Aluminum works well I think because it is easy to work (any carbide tipped blade used for wood will also work against aluminum for the most part) and it won’t rust. These will eventually get powder coated. There is another piece of angle aluminum that covers the bottom, to make a square tube kind of. It also has a couple of those little round lights that will function as puddle lights. I tend to not know when enough is enough….

    :D Stupidly excessive is what I do…
Definitely post what you do! I love seeing different ideas. Even if you end up duct taping a light to the bumper, that has value to the conversation. People get feedback on brightness, location, wiring, what type of tape works best…. There is always value in anything. Also, don’t ever be shy if you tried.

Looks great!! Can't wait to see output shots when you are complete. Did you trim the mounting tabs on the LP light bars to make them sit flush to each other?

I wish they made the LP bar in Amber, but I get that it wouldn't probably have the customer base to justify it. I would love to add them to the bags of my motorcycle. The "Stripelight bars" are nice too, but I like the mounting tabs, flat edge and length of the LP bars.

I did. I wish they made them in a surface mount configuration like their exterior strip lights, but I have to work with what I have. And what I have is a die grinder :D
Amber would be nice as well. I’d love an amber/white switchback as well.

Without the mounting tabs, how are you going to attach them to the aluminum? Double sided trim tape?

You read my mind!! Though for my application I would want a red/amber switchback.

If you guys know of a clean low profile (similar to the VLED's) red/amber switchback that isn't "sequential" let me know!!

Yeah, most likely. They have a “step” of sorts on the back, so I am using a 1/8”X3/4” filler to fill part of that gap. That should give me adequate surface area.

Amber/red would be nice. There is a link to some LEO lights that will do that, but I believe it requires a controller?

Ya, I posted those links. As much as I'd love to run those and I know they would do the job as good or better than most anything...they aren't cheap! About $110 each light and I want 2, maybe even 4. I know safety is priceless, but $200-$400+ is just a bit extreme.

I agree with you. Even though I have $320 of VLED lights that I cut up for this experiment….
    :anonymous:
I think if I were a more reasonable person, I probably would have used something a little more basic. Luckily @memario1214 and I have a deal going where he feeds my lighting addiction…
