The new wheels I ordered were the Falcon T8's. I love how they look and remind me of mb battles which are older jdm wheels. I've messaged Falcon and they said ET Conical shaped Lug nuts won't fit. They and many others in previous threads mentioned that the stock lug studs are quite short; replacing the stock studs with longer ones were suggested.

I was wondering what size and brand studs I should get to replace my stock ones? I don't want to buy studs that are obviously too long or same length as the factory ones.

All helpful advice and support would be greatly appreciated.

Heres a picture of the wheels I ordered. T8-7983-38-mbk-1_1500x.png

I'm having the same issue with these wheels on my 4runner... ARP 1007715 apparently work and are good quality, but they are really long.

The factory rears are 4mm longer than the fronts, and are long enough for me to be comfortable with them, so I wonder if you can use a set of rears on the front?

Do you know if the 4runner has the same length wheel stud as the tacoma? I just messaged some guy off ig and he says he didnt install new studs. He just ran with after market conical lug nuts.

I'm pretty sure the studs are the same on the 4runner/tacoma... I get 6 threads on the front with conical lugs which isn't quite enough as far as I'm concerned, but no doubt some people run them with no issues.

I had to put extended studs with my RAYS. Was only getting about 5 lug turns. Ordered the ones from wheeladapter.com as they were advertised 1/2" longer.. but they were actually 1" longer.. so that made installing them in the rear 'fun'. I already had extended lug nuts so the additional length isn't a big deal, but if you run the wheeladapter.com lugs, you'll need open ended lugs as well. I don't have any wheels installed close-ups, but after swapping the studs I'm getting about 20 turns.

My rear studs were exactly the same length as my fronts when compared side by side and the lugs installed with the exact same amount of rotations.

A popular option are the ones from the Matrix, as they are actually 1/2" longer, which gives you 6-8 more turns which should be sufficient and safe.

My stock studs vs the ones from wheeladapter.com:

I had to drill holes in the rear dust shields and find hole plugs to fill the 3/4" holes required. If I did it again, I would just order the Matrix studs.

    EDIT:

Most close-up installed pic I currently have, can see the ends of the studs about 1/2" in from the extended Muteki 45mm lug nuts. They come right to the end of the threads:

Awesome write up, thank you! I appreciate it

The matrix studs you mentioned are the ones from Benson X who installed them for his steelies correct?

Also if you installed the matrix studs, do you think youd still need to drill holes in your rear dust cover to fit them or would they have been small enough to fit in between those areas?

Check out this thread for this topic covered in depth: Wheel studs are too short! What to do.... | Tacoma World

The Matrix studs would have fit without issue front and rear. I could have cut mine down like a dude did in that thread but I figured I might as well get the full benefit of the longer studs since I already had them. Up front all I had to do was bend the dust shields a bit to pop them in. The rear is pretty thick to drill thru though - had to grab a new hole saw for metal.

Can just run generic Dorman studs for the Toyota Matrix. Just make sure to get 24 count or more. Link to the ones guys like from Amazon (might be able to find cheaper elsewhere): Amazon.com: Dorman 610-463 Rear M12-1.50 Serrated Wheel Stud - 14.20mm Knurl, 55mm Length Compatible with Select Pontiac / Toyota Models, 10 Pack : Automotive

This post in that thread shows the above lug studs installed before and after: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wheel-studs-are-too-short-what-to-do.119883/page-3#post-6880970

    Bumping this thread...

So, Dorman Toyota Matrix wheel studs with Muteki SR45R lugs?

My emails to Falcon inquiring about longer wheels studs got nowhere. I told them the lug nuts won't work, because the oem wheel studs are too short.

They kept confusing lugs nuts with wheel studs. o_O They posted a link for lug nuts, then mentioned they weren't aware of any longer lug nuts.

Like wtf? How do you sell wheels and not know what a lug stud is? About to chuck these and order something else.:smash:

    @Veet-88

Are you using longer wheel studs with those T8's?

No sir mine are factory using a conical splined lug nuts. I personally havnt been concerned about thread engagement on my t8's my ssw's a lil more concerned there.
But the shop i use hasn't made any notes or recommendations on extending studs for the wheels I have.

Last i looked you cannot use an ET style lug nut with the t8

Just to add to this i beat on my ssw set up quite hard and they take less threads than my t8's and I see no signs of failure no strain on the thread pitch. And there's a good 50-60,000km between the 2 sets of wheels now. As much as I agree it'd be nice for more thread engagement I do think it's largely blown out of proportion.

I really don't want to mess with changing wheel studs. It's such a pain in the arse to swap those.
