I changed my factory fill at 5000 miles - went to AutoZone and got one of the 3-prong types like the one above and couldn't get a good enough grip on it to break it free.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I got this one from Amazon and it fits perfectly.

I use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance since, from my brief bit of research, it has the most Group IV of any easy-to-find synthetic oil. Is everyone using 0W-20 or are some of y'all using 5W-30 in this old thing?

The OEM Toyota Oil Filter 90915-YZZD1 is a 74mm-14 Flute design. The WIX 51348 is a 74mm-15 Flute design if anyone's curious. On my '92, it's extremely tight quarters, so the "cap style" oil filter removal tool is the best option. My 2-jaw also works, but isn't as convenient to use. Also, beware you need a tool that has an external raised hex style socket to allow for your 3/8"rachet to attach to the cap wrench so it doesn't protrude down into the filter area and pushes it away so it won't grip the flutes. A Steelman 75mm x 14 Flute is an example, but not the correct number of flutes. I did an eBay search and found the style I needed with the raised hex area {item # 224153023666). The correct Steelman version is a different configuration design than their 75mmx 14 Flute and I'm not sure if it allows enough room for the ratchet to attach without any interference with the top of the filter.

The 90915-YZZD3 (and also the factory-installed 90915-20003) filter that I have here is 73-14.
