So far this winter l am guessing we had a little over 20 inches so far so you would have got more use over this way.

UPDATE (February 5th, 2022): I visited Centralia; Here's my truck in front of the Municipal Building!

    DSC_0001.jpg

    NOTE:
I did my research and realize that the "Graffiti Highway" has been covered with dirt to dissuade people from adding anything new to it... :(

I asked this question in the "Pennsylvania" thread, but I am worried that it might get passed over and buried; Has anybody been to the abandoned mining town of Centralia, Pennsylvania recently? It is definitely seems to still be open for exploration by the public, but what I would like to know is if it's passable for anything that isn't a 4x4...? If the road is impassable after a certain point, I would not mind parking the truck and walking. If this is the case, I would prefer to do it in the spring sometime so I don't have to worry about extreme cold or extreme heat.

Based on my research, it would definitely appear that it is still open for exploration by the public as long as the property lines of the few people who still live there are respected. Years ago, I read about explorers being confronted by a woman in a pickup claiming to be some kind of cop, but unlike Frick's Lock which can result in arrest for trespassing, Centralia still seems to be more or less open to the public as long as you don't do anything malicious. Anybody on here been to Centralia recently?

Didn't one of your 2nd Gens get encapsulated in ice, and rendered completely unusable for a couple days?!?!

Unfortunately that storm is what the weather guy said this storm reminds him of. The power was out for a week and it took 3 days for me to chisel the truck door open. Thankfully this time the truck in the garage so l won't have to go thru that part again.

Because of all the toxic steam rising from cracks in the ground? Do you know if it's still easy to get to?

It's pretty famous; Super hot and super toxic underground coal fire has been burning there since the 1960s!

I was there last May. I didn't spend a lot of time there but walked the highway a little. Didn't see any good opportunities to off-road. I wasn't familiar with the area but was at a place where the highway seemed to end at the woods and turn into a path. There were fire hydrants still in place deep in the woods. Pretty neat. There is a documentary from the 90's on YouTube that is very good. I can't seem to find it now.

I do believe I've seen that documentary; You also answered another question I had about bringing my furry 4-legged copilot along for the ride! So you can pretty much drive right in, the roads are passable, and a 4x4 isn't a requirement? I'm looking at Bing Maps right now, and from what I can tell it would likely be easier to come up through Ashland and take Byrnesville Road to Locust Avenue, which will plunk me right in the center of Centralia...

That house in your first picture? That was a rowhome! They demolished the houses on either side, and since the current owner has opted to stay, they put siding on either side to make it look a bit nicer; I would imagine that they've lived there long enough to have paid off the mortgage, and that due to the extraordinary situation with Centralia, they probably cannot get homeowner's insurance on the property any longer. I also heard that the USPS revoked Centralia's zip code a while back, so the town technically no longer exists...

Another member was in Centralia less than a year ago, so it would appear that it is still technically open to the public!

On another note, when I made the split-second decision not to go to Centralia in August 2018, it was in the middle of a brutal heatwave and my truck's A/C was not working 100%; It was blowing ICE COLD out of the two driver's side vents, but just cool out of the center right vent, and hot stick outside air from the far right vent...

At the time, I thought it was the blend door actuator, which I ended up needlessly replacing that next day; Turns out that the evaporator core was leaking!

    :spending::annoyed:

Anyway, I was worried that my A/C would totally shit the bed, and I would be two hours from home in an unfamiliar area in the middle of a heatwave with no A/C!

I haven’t noticed it stamped on mine any where but haven’t specifically looked for it. My frame does has a barcode on the frame rail underneath the drivers side door and I’ve always wondered about it. I always thought it might be for inventory management at either the frame manufacturer or at the Toyota plant. It’s possible that Toyota uses this barcode to associate frame to body for manufacturing or warranty purposes but I have no idea and highly doubt if it is this information is available to obtain from Toyota.

He could just swap the frame and he won't need to do anything w/ the tittle.
He could verify this, by simply calling a Toyota dealer and ask them if they have to do anything w/ the tittle,
    when replacing a frame.

    That is incorrect
I have dealt w/ replacing several frames and never had to do anything w/ the tittle.
That is in the state of Florida.
