Being of simple mind, could/would someone give a simple explanation (pros n cons-if any) of installing a throttle body spacer. Does it affect the MPG?

My love affair w/ Toyota trucks started in'89 w/purchase of an '89 xtnd cab 4x4 w/ the 22re- 350+ K miles when I donated it to Purple Heart foundation and drove it onto their flat bed hauler 15 years later.

Have a '99 Taco 4x4 w/ 3.4 in need of a frame; wife says it's also getting donated.

I purchased a new '20 Taco w/ 2.7 (I know, my fault), so I've searched upgrades, hence the 'spacer' question. Thanks- SHKB

If it did anything it would come with one from Toyota.

Doesn't do anything unless the intake is a carb one, or the old throttle body fuel injection. Some spacers that have a helix bore will make your intake sound like you have a mini-supercharger.

I think I ordered one from URD that did that for the 3.5. It made a cool sound, but I don't know if it helped much. I know a lot of auto manufacturers try to make their vehicle as pleasing to the most amount of people possible so they may refrain from doing things performance oriented when it can score them NVH points. Hard to say if it will help, but the placebo effect might.

I have a 2.7 and I actually don't regret it. I just wish I could have gotten a long bed. (GF wants more space for the little kiddo and the dog. I wanted the 6.5 foot bed.)

I recently got an intake tube that I like:

Holy shit, are throttlebody spacers still a thing? I remember having one of those on my mustang back in high school that was supposed to do the whole cyclone thing. lol

Lol... this snake oil again. Been in the Mustang scene a long time, these things were debunked as a performance mod a long time ago.

    Save your money.

Money would be better spent on an intake manifold spacer, which lowers the torque curve so peak tq comes on sooner

True, if you want to get into engines that aren't naturally aspirated.
