Motivx Oil Filter Drain Tool Alternative?

The motivx filter drain tool is sold out. I see lots of knock off ones on Amazon. Anyone use an Amazon one with good luck? Here's the motivx one:

I've got the MotivX model, along with the fill funnel, wrench, etc. It's awesome but I bet the others are close. Worse case, buy it and if it's not solid and machined well, send it back!

The oem filter also come with a plastic piece to drain the oil from the housing. It’s not as nice as the motivx but works just fine.

 

This is the one I purchased works great.

 

Works fine if you don't mind getting oil all down your arm and on the floor when you insert it into the housing.
The ones above allow you to insert the valve, route hose into oil drain pan, then open valve to release oil from the housing. Thus no mess.

 

I use that plastic gizmo that comes with a new filter and a short piece of hollow metal tube i had laying around the shop. The tube is about a foot or so long and the plastic drain gizmo fits into the end of the tube perfectly.

Just point the bottom end of the metal tube at your drain bucket and jam the plastic thing (that's mounted in the other end of the tube) up into the filter housing hole. The oil drains through the metal tube and into the bucket with zero mess. Cheap solution that works great.

 

Tons of knock-offs on FleBay. I just searched for Toyota oil drain tool and found a bunch. Not a huge investment so maybe worth trying out. I just use the plastic one that comes with the filter.

 

I use the plastic drain 'gizmo' that comes with the filter.
I hold it in the end of the cardboard tube left over from an empty roll of paper towels; and when I shove it up in there, all of the oil goes down the inside of the tube into the pan, instead of down my arm.
Its a bit of a crude, homegrown solution; but it works, it's readily available, and it's free.

 

The cheap one works great and i cut the tube to hang just below the rim of my catch can so it doesnt get all oily.
Fumoto valve takes 20+ minutes to drain due to the hole being much smaller than the hole in the oil pan. Hard pass!

 

@CenterKnurl OP, this is identical to what I got in the MotivX kit.

 

I just take the housing off without draining it.

 

If you do any type of off-roading, especially in mud, this is the Fumoto to get!

That's bitchin. Is that the correct thread for our Tacos? I forget so I'll have to look up my old order unless you confirm.

EDIT: Yep, Same thread. Good to go. You guys with the short nipple....does the drain hose still snap on to that okay? I have a longer nipple on mine. TWSS.

 

Yes that’s the one for our 3.5’s.

I use a short section of some random blue silicone hose I had laying around, it pushes onto the stubby nipple just fine.

 

I have the Fumoto hose that comes with a couple plastic couplers, one straight, the other 90* that snaps over that little rib on the valve outlet. I'm sure it fits now that I think about it. It's designed specifically for that purpose. I ordered the new style. It'll be here tomorrow, I think! I'm creeping up on my 10k change so I'll switch it out then. Thanks for the heads-up on this!

 

I swapped out my oil filter housing for a metal one. I couldn't get that retainer pin back on. Does everyone just trash them or is there a trick to it? I tried using needle nose pliers to crimp it back on with no luck...looked like it was loose and would fall off
