Corrosion inhibitor on King shocks

Anyone use WD corrosion inhibitor on the fittings? That seems to be the most common corrosion spot on Kings?

 

The fittings are standard aeroquip zinc coating. IMO just shake and shoot them with paint.

The bodies corrode eventually too and the fix is the cerakote them when you are getting them serviced.

 

Those look good! What paint are we talking here for the fittings?

 

Steel-it is best but any name brand will be fine with proper prep.

BUT, if you live in a snowy environment you are better off be very diligent about going to the car wash after the roads clear to get the salt/mag chloride off.

It's exactly the right product, was made to protect the landing gear rams of carrier based aircraft.

It's a dry lubricant (sprays as a liquid) that protects against corrosion without actively attracting or holding dust and dirt.

 

I've always used sharkhide

 

This stuff looks incredible! I think i will spray it on the shock bodies as well.

 

It's great for prolonging life on uniball upper control arms and heims as well.

 

interesting! The guys At Mazzulla off road told me to just keep my FK teflon uniballs and Heims clean. You’re saying spray a little on them for corrosion?

 

I try to at least once a month clean them with a tooth brush, then hit them indirectly with compressed air and wipe with a microfiber then I squirt a little ring of Superlube synthetic oil and let that soak in overnight and spray the top and bottom if the uniball and my heims threads and rods on the shocks.

Keeps everything clean, free moving, quiet, and corrosion free!

 

What do you use to sand it down? What grit and do you use primer and a clear?

 

It's not a car so no need to over think it. Scotch-brite and your choice of paint and primer will work just fine.
