How bright is it? Wonder if the clear one would make for a good camp light

It’s pretty darn bright to look at but output wise it’s not too terribly bright as far as lighting up surroundings. But I think as a camp light it would be pretty solid if it was mounted in an appropriate spot. It also doesn’t draw much power, just over 2 amps.

I like what you did for the solar panel. Can you post what brand panel that is and how you mounted it?

All the info is in the quotes below. I had to modify the brackets to get them to be lower than the crossbars but remain off of the roof.

Thanks for the info. I got some lumber up on my Prinsu right now so I really like how you kept it below the bars so you could still carry stuff.

It took a whole lot of tweaking to get the brackets to sit right and I had to trim off the excess threads to make it fit, but it was worth the effort. It's tight, but the panel never makes contact with the roof.

    None, yet.
Great 1st gen rig you got there. I have a 1st gen extended cab like yours and am wondering- how you accounted for the angles not matching up, the gaps between the rack legs/feet and the contoured sheet-metal roof (can see in pic). It seems if I drill and put the plus nut/spacers they will come out at the same contoured angle(s) of the metal roof they go into.
I'm not too sure about these 1" black spacers that came with mine, seems like they are for the newer trucks with channels/gutters and weatherstrip possibly.
I love the product, just need to figure out how to install right.
    Any info. much appreciated!
    Really nice truck there.

I don't have any experience with those specifically but I will say that's a pretty large case to have up there acting as a sail. It'll definitely impact MPG and maybe noise as well. That's why rifle cases are so popular because those are fairly low profile.

Clean and subtle.. although, being an OG prinsu customer, the vinyl didn't line up perfectly.

I am not so sure about the quality of the black zinc coating. I just verified all the holes on the aluminum cross bars, after like couple holes, the black coating was worn out. I guess I will have to use anti seize compound on all of them.

I have some rusty hardware that I was going to replace, but read somewhere that people had issues with them rusting and breaking when trying to remove them. I would want to avoid that altogether as it would be a headache to replace all the hardware on a full rack. Is there some type of black paint that I can use to paint over the rust and have a decent looking finish that will last a while or allow for future touch ups?

You can try this. Supposed to neutralize rust and turns it black in the process. Rustoleum recommends painting afterwards. They also have “Rust Stop” spray paints in different colors that claims to do same for light rust. Neither dissolves rust, so if you have a rough surface build up of rust, that will remain rough.

    what are those?
Does anyone know size of the light bar cutout width and height? I have a non cutout one that I want to try and cut rather than buy a new deflector.

That's exactly what I did. I just eyeballed and made a few cuts until I got it where I wanted it. I had a 40" lightbar so I cut out a section that was 40" and 1" deep. Mocked it up, trimmed some more, rinse and repeat. It eventually got to where it needed to be.

Of course if someone chimes in and can give the measurement, that would save some time.

Looking for advice on rear-firing cargo lights to illuminate the bed. I’m trying to mount them on the bottom of the rearmost bar, just to keep everything nice and clean-looking. I see some guys run Baja S2s. Are there other options that will fit? I’m a big fan of Diode Dynamics stuff, and their SSC2 should work in that location once I figure out a different bracket for inverted mounting.

Failing that, can someone measure the distance between the bottom of their rearmost rail and their roof? Off to the side is preferred, since that’s where I’ll be mounting lights.

You may want to consider the Rigid Ignites to illuminate the bed. They put out a lot of light for their size. I got them under my Prinsu and above the camper shell and you can eyeball from this pic if they would fit your location.

Thanks for the pic. Would you be willing to take a measurement between the bottom of the rearmost roof rack rail and the roof? I’d like to figure out my space constraints before committing to one light or another.

    *Edited to add*
It doesn’t look like Rigid makes snap-on opaque covers for their Ignite light series, so those won’t work. Gotta make sure I have the option of legal compliance.
