More challenging than I thought. Room gets awful small with 2 and trying to supply up for a month. Yeah...won't be doing this again anytime soon.

    Hope everyone is doing well.
Haven't sent me on a job yet today. I overheard a couple of guys going to help a vendor and something about a sewage lift pump.....
I tried to avoid eye contact

Rust removed, washed, dried in the oven, and now cooling down. It’s about to get some bacon grease to be seasoned.

I'm not sure how to mount this any more securely, as I don't have many forms of attachment for the bed. (Hence grade 8 bolts...) I'm still getting chatter/minor oscillation when trying to make a pass and cut this keyway. I've got the bed locked in on both the height, quill, and z axis. I'm sure part of it is the fact that it's a manual feed bed, so my hand movements aren't perfectly calibrated. 6DDBCE0C-F4C1-4FF7-A0D3-28DBC8381C7F.jpg

Edit: using a 1/2 in two flute endmill, ~350-400 rpm. The material is standard cold roll shaft stock.

Done. I’ve made the house smell like bacon most of the day. I may try making fajitas this week if the weather cooperates.

    85mph speedometer was federally mandated.

Saw a cool article involving that. https://jalopnik.com/the-ford-mustang-svo-had-a-hilarious-but-possibly-illeg-1847033278

I most always start with a smaller size end mill. That set up should work but v-blocks are nice to have.
I put copper, brass or aluminum between the clamp and bar stock.
That old of a machine your best result going to be roughing that key way out then finish it with the1/2" or finish size. My 2 cents

Lock the Y- axis as well and a little more rpm might be OK. CoolMist siphon coolant are so nice to have, should get them to cough up some $$ small amount to get better tool performance/life.

I ended up watching one of Abom's videos on milling a keyway, and taking the full quarter inch depth in one pass actually made it much smoother. I watched his feed speed and tried to emulate it by hand as close as I could, got okay looking chips and the results worked. I really think this mill is just a touch too small for what we ask of it with these shafts and bigger.

Just tell your boss you need a keyway cutter!

For legal purposes, this is a joke.
