I really could've avoided a lot of my headache today if our old Milwaukee portable mill was working. Unfortunately the variable speed controller for it took a shit. I could've shifted the shaft over a couple inches, cut new keyways up at the location, and been done with it. Instead I had to remove the whole thing, carry it down to the shop, at which point it was easier to cut a new shaft and key that one. 6B8D1A2B-6DB5-4A2C-AC6B-E291BDE32836.jpgDC59D44A-418D-414D-BBEB-712E4F5BCABC.jpg

If it's not broke, it will be shortly! The portable mill is lord knows how old, has the original wood storage case still. In my defense, that was broke before I started at the mill, I think I was told somewhere in the neighborhood of two years it's been toast. They didn't use it enough to want to find a replacement, so I got the short end of the stick today

If you can get a model number, I'll do the leg work and see if I can find a part for it.

I'll take a gander at it tomorrow, I'll let you know. I think they have one at another of our mills they wanted to try and reverse engineer as well, I'll probably give the right person a poke about that possibility too.

Milwaukee has funny ideas about repair parts. A bunch of their legacy stuff still has repair items available, but some items made in the past 10-15 years are non-existent.

Friend of mine went and picked up a feed bin that holds 15 tons and brought it home yesterday, 3 hours away

Much appreciated! Considering how much these units cost, I can't believe they didn't bother fixing this to have it working.

Can you throw a trail cam in there so you can at least get pictures of the idiots? They'd probably steal that, too.
