Bummer, I use to use a parking lot like your park and ride.
I would park next to either a higher lifted truck or a Prius so they would try for them first.

I know that it’s too late for the OP, but I can recommend a Talon cat protector.

Usually it's a 2 minute job with a battery powered saws-all. Not only do you have to replace the cat, but the exhaust and tail pipe too.

Take aluminum for example. Very costly to produce from ore, but cheap to recycle.

"Between January and May 2021, car thieves stole almost 26,000 catalytic converters in the United States. This equates to 5200 thefts a month! And criminals aren’t just slipping underneath any old vehicle and ripping the catalytic converter out before fleeing the sight. According to analysts, it appears that thieves are intentionally targeting certain car models more than others.

The common consensus seems to be that the Prius, Tacoma, Lexus SUVs, and the Accord are some of the most targeted cars for catalytic converter theft."

    from https://www.way.com/blog/catalytic-converter-thefts-most-targetted-cars-listed/

    and:
Will insurance cover catalytic converter theft?
If you have comprehensive coverage on your auto insurance policy, catalytic converter theft is usually covered. Comprehensive coverage may pay to replace the stolen converter and repair any damage caused by its removal. Still, it’s essential to double-check your coverages with your current insurance agent to make sure you’re insured in the event of theft like this. Despite its name, comprehensive insurance does not cover everything.

So stupid question... I know the cat protector is going to give better overall protection as it covers everything. I just got my 2022 OR and was looking to put skids on it. Is that going to provide "enough" protection or just slow them down a bit? If they want them they will get them I know. Also, I assume none of the cat protectors work in conjunction with the skids? We have had a number of cars trucks hit in our area as well and am a little worried but not sure if enough to get specific protection, especially if I am going to do the full skids in the near future. Thanks for the input.

This makes the third Toyota truck I know of in Houston in the SAME WEEK that has been victim to cat theft. First was my co-worker's Tundra in the Willowbrook area, second was third gen Tacoma near the George R. Brown convention center and now this. I will definitely be looking for cat protection soon... Sorry @darron1117 that this happened to you.

I think it would be cool to figure out a way to make a shield out of plexiglass. The thief looks, thinks he can get to it, gets underneath and realizes he can't. The prize is in sight but out of reach. :brianr:

Well, today they would probably try to prosecute you because why can you have a nice truck that you work everyday for and this poor young fellow
was brought up wanting and needing and knows no other way to support himself. Then they will show pictures of him at 12 years of age smiling
    on his school photo.

Hey, thanks bud. A gentleman and his wife in Kingwood has a business where they make plates for Tacos, Prius, and Tundras.
Had mine installed while they replaced my cats. Will shoot you their link. Nice people and the wife claims that out of
several thousand plate they've sold so far, they have not had one theft reported to them. Just need to slow the thugs
down so they will move on.
    They ship, also!!!

Thanks for the info and glad that you were able to get the Taco back on the road so quick! Sorry you had to deal with this BS! You guys even made it on the news up here in DFW, they mentioned the Park & Ride and how a number were stolen during one day.

I assume the cat shield and skid plates can't coexist? I Assume the skids will slow them down a little bit but if they want them they will get them.

Yeah, my wife picked me up yesterday from my park and ride and there was a White 3rd gen Taco parked about 3 spaces over from where they got mine and as we
drove away, we both could see his pipe hanging. At a larger park and ride on the other side of town there were people standing in line giving reports to Metro Transit Police
because 11 were stolen at that lot on that one day. Each one way trip cost $3.25 so, that's $6.50 per day times how many thousands take the coach bus per day to work.
Security should be much better. Where mine were stolen, there's an HPD sub-station 2 blocks down the street. Sucks, man!!!

Unreal you would think that the PD would be a bit more aware and diligent about this since it keeps happening. Now I am paranoid as it is pretty bad here as well! I am planning to put on full skids so I know it will help a bit but not sure what other options we would really have. Sad we even have to think about it.

Normally, skid plates don't have the sides to prevent access so, they're only skid plates and no real theft protection. It appears most cat guards will work with OEM steel or TRD skids. The "Cat Security" item looks very nice but is relatively light weight for use as a skid plate. The "Talon" on the other hand is a full 1/4" thick and is advertised as a functional skid plate as well as an effective guard. They are priced about the same so, get the one that suits your needs. If you don't off road much go with the lighter weight item. For me, I like to off road (I've bashed my OEM front skid to bits already) and will be getting the Talon product and replace my steel front skid with the TRD front skid at the same time. Just my thoughts after looking at this already. Hope it helps.
