Very nice stuff! I had a Nikon D3000 and really liked it but I ruined it ice climbing. It rusted internally it may just be the lens but I need to get off my butt and figure it out.. also been thinking it’s pretty outdated…. I don’t know… lol

I think DSLRs will go the way of film, so would invest in mirrorless. The Nikon mirrorless system (Z mount), is a superior design to the DSLR F mount. You can use an F mount lens with an adapter on a Z mount body, you just loose the inherent design advantages of the Z mount. You cannot adapt a Z mount lens to an F mount.

It has been a little over a year since I looked, but the Nikon Z mount was the best design of all the mirrorless mounts. That said, the other brands work well.

Remember, pretty much everything sold today has enough megapixels. There comes a point where more is not better as smaller pixels collect less light. It is easy to get caught up in pixel count, but in any quality camera today it should not drive the decision.

Used gear, such as B&H Photo Video sells is a great way to get set up. Get a body that is a generation or two dated with a low shutter count (relative to its rated shutter count) and put your money on glass. And yes, a quality mirrorless still has a mechanical shutter and the shutter count on them tracks the mechanical, rather then the electronic, shutter count.

You are exactly correct. It was getting late last night and it was an afterthought. I am prepping for milkyway season for sure. We should collaborate some more though!

You got great images on your IGram account - only thing I can advise is the later into the season ( Sept ~ Oct ) the Milky Way is up and out
and about at dark-thirty... the sooner in the season June/July etc we're talking midnight plus...

This image was in September around 9:00 pm - I 'painted' the hill-top with a red head-lamp just waving it in that direction
for 1 pass.. doesn't take much to brighten up the foreground.

With this image I used the 'white-light'...

The D3000 is a bit outdated. My D3300 is too but I'm a cheap bstard and won't throw down for the D7500 or one of the Z models.
The Z (mirrorless) models are bitchin cool but there aren't a lot of lenses out there for it. I can push up to the D7500 and all of
my current lenses would work super on it.

You can find real good deals on used D3300's, D5xxx, and D7xxx models out there.

I returned the 200-500mm lens that I rented for a week, and my daughter asked if I was going to buy one. It's $1,400.00 which
sounds like a lot but the reality is for that lens Nikon is on crack for selling it that cheap. The next level up is $3,200 and the next
level is $10k... Yesterday I saw some big ole cranes in a pond and wish I had that lens with me - and I'll probably fork over the money
for one within the next few weeks.

I need to win the lottery...
