Fumoto valve and a short hose means I can drain oil without dropping skids

If your offroading at all or actually use your truck to do work I would consider not using one. Even if you drive roads / highways only your (probably) ok to use a fumoto valve. But I still dont trust them and say It's not worth the worry. The bolt is much more reliable and only takes 1 minute to get out.
Example scenarios.. Say your driving down the highway and you hit anything accidentally wood, shredded semi tire, etc... it might fail..wife or you run over a large parking block at the grocery lol... gotta pull over make sure it's not leaking.. too much of a worry if you ask me. This is only my opinion and thought I'd share it. Oh and the clip wont save it if you do hit something hard.

Here's what fumoto says on the website

    • For extreme use, while Fumoto oil drain valves are manufactured to last for the life of your vehicle and to withstand normal wear and tear when used as designed, they are a mechanical device and caution must be used if they are subject to being struck by heavy objects, the ground or at a high speed. Total failure of the valve and loss of engine oil could occur if the valve is struck with sufficient force.

I had one on the old truck for 3 years and 40k miles that included many off road adventures, it was perfectly happy behind a skid plate and saved at least 3 hours of skid removal and install during that time.

I be concerned if I was running stock splash guards instead of skid plates but if something hits my Fumoto I have other things to worry about since it's protected by a relentless fabrications skid plate. Any impact that would reach the oil pan means I'd be looking for a tow home, even if I was running a factory drain plug.

Well I installed my fumoto valve finally , switched the truck over to Mobil 1 synthetic today . The valve is tucked up in front of the cross member and the factory “skid plate” is helping protect it . I got the newer version of the valve I guess which has a larger opening for faster drains . I also used the little clip that protects from accidental opening of the valve (and the little black cap that protects from dirt and debris from getting up in the valve ) note it doesn’t hang down below the opening

I guess I gotta wait 10,000 miles before getting to actually use it for the first time lol

    Looks good! @igno1tus

With so little driving I do with my truck, it will take 2-3 years before I could reap the benefit of the valve. I thought about getting one for my DD, but it would hang too low so I guess no fumoto for me.

You're assuming he didn't ever use the same valve on other vehicles. $300 over 12 years is fairly trivial even in your worst case scenario. Chicken little much?

I already have fumoto valves on my other vehicles, I will be buying one for the tacoma as well. Debating between the F133S or the F133N, not too worried about the longer one since I have the TRD skidplate covering it. My question is about the connecting hose, does it work best with the long nipple one or the short one should be fine?

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
I've got the short nipple on the 1GR and it drains just fine with the stock skid plate (splash guard). No need to use a hose but I've got the hose assembly and it works fine too.

This was actually the first 'mod' I did on my Taco. I installed it when I dropped in my Royal Purple.

Ironically, I had one on my Subaru, but I never actually got to use it because the transmission died. >_>

I also bought a second one, at the same time as the Taco's, for the T100. I don't think that one is installed yet, though.

How do you torque these down when you install them? Just use a wrench on the flats?
I would also like to know about the nipple ones, does the hose work well with the short nipple?

The short will actually work with a hose also.

They both work with a hose. Super clean oil change.
