Not a Tacoma concern, but wondering what the speculation would be, that the 2022 Tundra also features the intelligent transmission/AI controlled. I wonder if it'd have "learning issues" like when the 2016 Tacoma first came out and needed dealer re-programming...

Hopefully they learned their mistake with the Tacoma and the tranny learning disease won't spread to any other vehicles

Not really connected, but seeing there have been a lot of auto learning issues from many manufacturers since around 2014, I would like a lot of new autos in the first year of most vehicle models will have issues. As for myself, I daily drove a XJ 2.5L with a manual for 2 years without issues. Then I got a Corolla and then my current Camry for road trips. I ordered a manual 2022 TRD OF because of the headaches with the maintenance of the auto and software issues. I know there is nothing wrong with my Camry's trans, but it's annoying compared to the Avalon.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
It's a 10 speed so hopefully that helps. And since it's TT it'll have torque down low. I doubt it's an issue but would love to hear from some new 2022 Tundra owners.

It's not difficult to imagine an internal Toyota tug-o-war between the engineers dialing in performance and "drivability" versus the bean counters at Toyota that are tasked with meeting the fleet mpg required for big gubment EPA numbers.

Your issue wasn't the transmission, you got a sub preforming engine.

Same with me when i had a stroke years ago...my right side was paralyzed and i had to operate the brake, and gas with my left foot, plus use my left hand for the gear shift lever on my tundra till i regained enough motion back with weeks of physical therapy. I even learned to write with my left hand so now i can use either hand to do some handwriting.

the learning process takes a while. every time i fill up with a different grade of gas it takes 3-4 tanks before it starts shifting properly again. kind of annoying.

You should always use the same grade fuel and keep the gear shift in the D mode at all times or you'll end up with a retarded truck.

I think the auto trans is "stronger" as planetary gear systems are stronger then spur gear systems. But I don't think theres really any benefit the either in the long term besides personal preference.
