Ah okay I knew I saw or read something. I'll going to go Mobtown or Relentless with my new bumper.

Has anyone else tried the skid on this thread? I am extremely tempted to do it but I'd like to see more pictures of the mounting process compared to the original.

It bolts right on. Just add a few washers as a spacer. Provides a bit more clearance and can take moderate abuse. I ended up taking a pretty major hit on mine and all i did was put a small dent in it. They also look sweet blacked out.

Would anyone be willing to chime in on if the oil change plate lines up with the 2nd gen? Or are you dropping the skid at each oil change?

I have this skid plate on my 2015 Tacoma. No, you don’t have to drop the skid plate when doing an oil change. There’s a small hole cut out for access to the drain plug on the oil pan near the back of the skid plate. I remove the small access plate in order to get the drain tube from the oil filter housing through that opening.

Thanks for clearing that up! I wasn't sure if the location of the drain plug was vastly different between the 2nd and 3rd gen.

Yes sir, I sold my TM DCSB. I was offered an amount I couldn't turn down. I was fortunate to find a nice 2015 OR and now it's being driven by my daughter. I'm driving the '13 regular cab. I think you're the only guy now with BR & TM trucks Robert.

Here's another example. I pulled the red letters out of my skid plate. Bolts right up without needing to remove the braces.

I also run a tube from the bottom of the oil filter drain when changing my oil. I route it down through front right hand side of the skid plate since it's right there

Will it work with a steel winch bumper?

I just ordered one, I have an ARB bumper with a winch. I'll fill you in on if it fits, I doubt there will be any issues though. I'll document the process for anyone else interested in upgrading.

It fit on no problem, if anything there's a kinda large gap between the bumper and the plate since it sits differently on the 3rd gens. The plate has 6 bolts, the front 4 use larger bolts and replaces factory ones, they mount in different spots compared to the factory skid. Before putting the skid on I recommend doing some rust proofing on the frame on which it mounts. It was a pretty easy installation, I did not need any spacers or washers that weren't included with the skid. I'm definitely happy with the install, however, it really just decreased my approach angle a bit. In the future, I'm tempted to try adjusting the spacers that come with the skid so it sits more flush with the bumper. Otherwise I'd definitely recommend installing one

Removed the front two spacers and sits nice and snug against my C4 bumper.

Nice! I tried using some different shorter bolts but I ended up removing the spacers that came with the skid and placing two shorter spacers on the outside of the skid, got a similar fitment but it's currently resting against the metal cross members under the front beam. I've had mine on for several months now but the plastic TRD lettering popped out a bit so I'm getting replacement lettering soon.

Here's the most recent picture of my rig.

I highly recommend the 3rd gen TRD skid to anyone with a 2nd gen Tacoma. Paired with a bumper and TRD Pro style grill, it looks fantastic. It's also plenty functional. I've done several trips to Uwharrie doing every trail other than the frontside of Daniel, It has seen some damage but has held up tremendously. I will note it can make removing or replacing a CV Axle more difficult as you don't have a good surface to pry the CV out on. Other than that, it works great.

I will admit it’s pretty beefy for an OEM option, the 2nd Gen version is a joke compared to this one lol! Only “modification” I had to do, rethread the last two back thread. Little bit of anti-seize on the bolts and we’re good to go! Canadian winters plus salt, it freaking sucks up here lol!
