This is my 2003 double cab prerunner with 208k miles. This is a 3 generation truck passed down from my grandfather to my father and then to myself (mine for the last 8 years), so this truck means a lot to me.

With that being said I have decided I want to turn this truck into a sweet overlander and am looking for tips on what I should be looking out for. My current plan is to get the camping (bed rack and roof top tent) part set up first. I have had some trouble finding a bed rack however as most will not fit a first gen tacoma and also I am leaning towards adding a tonneau cover which makes my options even more limited to fitting a bed rack. Any help as far as what products will work in that scenario is greatly appreciated.

After my camping setup is taken care of, I plan to add a lift probably 2-3'" and new tires (33's?) and wheels.

Unfortunately this truck is a 4x2 so my final step is an ambitious one as I would eventually like to convert it to a 4x4. I know this would be costly so at the very least my thought is if/when the tranny needs replacement I would swap it out and convert it at that point.

Any thoughts and/or tips on my plan and what parts/products I should prioritize are appreciated!
