    Hey y'all, I have a 1998 SR5 with stock 14" 5 x 4.5" lug wheels & 255/70/14r tires. (see current tires/wheels below)
    2557014.jpg

I need to replace the back tires and I'm thinking about going a little bigger, so I'm considering getting new wheels + a full set of new tires.

I (obviously) don't know much about tires/wheels, and I'm trying to figure out what the largest 5-lug wheel I can put on my truck without having to raise it or anything would be? Can I replace my existing 14" wheels with 15" 5-lug wheels? What about 16" 5-lug wheels?

I am definitely out of depth with this one so whatever information & insight y'all can provide would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

The actual wheel size probably doesn't matter as long as the outer diameter of the tire doesn't get too big. I don't know anything about your model but I'm sure there are threads to search about how big you can go with the tire. The only problem is sifting through all the threads of people telling you to do a search. That will be a job if nobody else chimes in. There is a tire calculator at the bottom of the page to compare tire diameters

Yeah getting rid of those 14' tires can change whole feel of the truck...
Those narrow little tires give you the rattle can effect....

I have 15in dealer upgrade rims..... 98 ext cab sr5 rwd ....zero lift...
I see these rims on alot of tacos near this age...so dealer or popular mass marketer...

With the bigger tires and the new stainless headers....my truck kinda feels like a chevy short bed now....

215/60 R15.................I am missing one of these center caps if anyone knows where I can get one...

In “Forums” there is a “5 Lug” thread. Also see the “Wheel and Tires” thread.

I just did this upgrade on a friends 2000 5 lug Tacoma, ditching the 14" wheels. I picked up a nice set of 2001-2004 Tacoma 15" 5 lug stock steel wheels, with new tires, center caps and lug nuts. $250 off CL was a steal, tires were stock size 205/75-15. (you could go slightly larger) Installed them with a new set of KYB gas shocks and he's all set. Rides better, gained 1/2" of height, fills out the wheel wells/looks better too.
