Hello, was driving in 2 wheel drive on interstate going 70mph and suddenly the cruise shut off and the cruise control light on the dash began blinking. 10 mins later the traction control and check engine light illuminated on the dash. The speedometer and brake lights work, just not the cruise. I got a P0500 "Vehicle Speed Sensor A" code when I ran it at my house. I cleared the code and it reappeared the first minute of driving again. I was using 4 wheel drive earlier in the snow and on country roads prior to the interstate in that drive when the issued first occured. I don't know where to start, spiral cable with audio controls, brake pedal sticking, bad sensor or just wait until it isn't freezing and cross my fingers? As stated the brake lights and speedometer are working fine, traction and orange check engine light are on. Any guidance where to start dash taco.jpg taco read.jpg Inkedtacoo_LI.jpg would be appreciated.

There won't be anything wrong with your cruise control once you resolve the issue with your code. It is common to see unrelated systems affected by issues. Once you get the wheel speed sensor issue taken care of you should be golden!

Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? It makes a difference on how the speed sensor signal is routed.

My truck is an automatic. Oddly enough last night on my way home from a game the dash was clear and ran perfectly fine, and the cruise worked. This morning, it was back to the traction and check engine light on, no cruise. I purchased a new clock spring and am going to try that first before the sensors.

Hmmm...I can't imagine a scenario in which a clock spring would cause a P0500, but I'm no professional tech. I do know enough that the P0500 is speed related, which the clock spring is NOT, and as @AJKlug1 stated, that is what is disabling your cruise. Your ECM is smart enough to know that if there is something wrong with the speed input, it can't control cruise safely. For example, any time a wheel sensor goes (which would also throw an ABS code).

Clock spring will not cause a P0500.
P0500 means the PCM is not recieving a vehicle speed signal which will cause the cruise not to work.

The vehicle speed signal on automatic trucks is sent from the ABS module (uses one of the rear speed sensors) to the Combination Meter (instrument cluster) the Combination meter then sends it to the PCM.

If your speedometer stays working when the problem occurs most likely the intrument cluster is bad, if not you need to check the rear speed sensors.
An oscilloscope is required to properly diagnose the circuit.

I read on the above thread where someone changed the wiring in the steering wheel and that did the fix. But defiantly going to check sensors if that doesn't do it. Thanks for the posts guys!

The "wiring" is likely just the wiring between the cruise control stalk and the output to the ECM, which DOES go through the clock spring, but only affects your cruise in that if the clock spring is broken/shorted, there is no communication with the ECM for cruise control to turn on, etc. - but it has nothing to do with a P0500 disabling the cruise control. They are two different problems with the same end result (as far as cruise is concerned).
