I currently have my ultra gauge displaying RPM, FT-LBS Torque, Eng Temp, Trans Temp, Air Intake Temp, and Bat Voltage.

Any gauges that you guys think are more important then these? Just let me know what to replace. I would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks

For trans you should be able to monitor both the pan temp and the torque converter temp. I prefer a less busy screen so I only monitor four gauges. The two trans temps, engine temp and the voltage on my tundra which has an auto trans.

On my tacoma which is manual trans (no trans temp to monitor) I watch engine temp, voltage, air temp and engine load. The main one I care about there is engine temp and engine load.

    Oh look, another mod....

I like that and it's very informative. The only thing I don't like is the font & resolution of it. You would think in 2022 they would make a more clear or better resolution screen. It looks a bit blurry to me.

Is that a stupid thing to nit pick about?

Like @EatSleepTacos I like having engine load and engine temp. I have played with the gears (automatic) to see what engine load and relative throttle position do. It seems the stock programming likes to be in a high gear with high engine load and higher relative throttle position. When I shift down to 5th or 4th, the load goes down and the throttle position lowers. I really got to get mine tuned.

I don't think it's stupid. The pic is enlarged a bit and overstates the pixelation, but Ultraguage certainly could do better with the resolution.

It hasn't bother me driving down the road and I do like the information provided.

I think it's good feedback for the company. Plenty of room for improvement in the Android/iOS app UI/UX from the info I see as well.

For everyone using % Engine Load, what do you use it for? Could you give me an example situation where you would want to monitor it. (I'm thinking towing but I don't know for sure)

since getting my 3rd gen, I don't feel a need to use my ultragauge. I really wanted it for mileage on my 2nd gen but the tacoma already has that.

I primarily use it because I'm a manual transmission. I've been driving manuals for years but it is still handy to see how hard the engine is working even if I don't realize it. Higher engine load is the real MPG killer, not higher RPMs. I cruise at 3k RPMs at 70 mph on the highway for hours on end and I manage to average 15 mpg since the engine isn't having to work hard to maintain that speed. Pretty great considering how built the truck is.

So does % engine load increase when accelerating or pulling more weight?

Yes. Throw it on one of the gauges and watch it and play with it, it'll give you a good idea of how the truck is reacting and working in relation to engine load.

hmm, maybe I'll have to go back to using it for engine load....

I use it similar to Randy with my automatic trans. On highway trips I monitor engine load and relative throttle. If I drop down a gear to reduce the load on the engine, it takes less relative throttle and the truck runs better, meaning it takes hills better and less erratic downshifts. And I have seen an MPG difference, not big, but it is there. I do it mainly for drivability in hilly and mountainous areas. I don't tow anything, but I could see it being useful there also.
