I just bought a brand new 2022 Tacoma. About half of the time I try to play music from my phone through the USB data port, the music cuts in and out every 5 seconds or so.

It does this both when playing through the Toyota system and through apple car play. I figured it was some issue with the usb port connection but monkeying around with the position of the cables does not do anything. Also no sort of unplugging and re-plugging (both from the phone and from the usb port) fixes it. When this happens, the issue persist until the next time I start the truck and it will magically be working flawlessly. Also, if I unplug my phone and switch to bluetooth, the music plays fine.

Have any of you experienced this? or have any ideas what to do

Are you using an OEM apple cable? If not could just be a bad cable. For me, my 21 and android auto I would get drop outs because of my cable. I didn't have to buy a Google cable to get a good connection but had to buy one or two to find a good one. I'm sure any well rated off brand would work

My only suggestion would be the apple cable that everyone else said.

My apple car play USB port stopped charging my phone, turned out it was just the crappy cable I had from Amazon. Switched to an Apple cable and haven’t had any issues since.

I experienced this once like you said only with carplay, while bluetooth remained fine. Next time I started the truck it didn't happen. Using an Apple cable as well

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am using an OEM apple cable. It is a bit old though, I will try another cable for a couple days and see if that fixes it.

I have had this happen with both a non-apple cable and an apple cable. One was from a mobile car charger I had but it was falling apart it still worked more consistently for apple car play than my OEM apple cable did. I'm about to swap to I believe it's an anker braided cable that I use in my F150 work truck all the time with no issues. Will let you know how it goes

I have constant issues with Carplay, both stuttering and trying to connect.

Happens to me as well, regardless of cable type. It’s a CarPlay and iPhone iOS issue. It doesn’t happen on the wireless car play unit I have in another car.
