I've spent a lot of time out in that area, definitely a cool little spot. Did you go and check out any of the "sights" while you were there?

We've been up there about four times now. I'm really enjoying it and will definitely go back often.

I'm all ears if you have any recommendations on places to see.

We're coming from Bakersfield so it's a quick and easy day trip for us. So far we've been:

Up through Last Chance from Redrock Randsburg Rd (that was a butt-puckering experience for a newby wheeler like me... made me realize I need some real sliders and armor before I try anything like that again).

Up Mesquite Canyon from Redrock Randsburg (much more chill for a newbie like me!), and out Last Chance from the 14 which is obviously super boring but it's become my preferred egress route when it's just time to call it a day and head home.

We've taken the kids through Burro Schmidt several times and explored the homestead, & poked around Bickel Camp some. Had the kids climb around in the Holly Cleanser mine. Recently took my oldest up there and we stayed a couple nights in the Jon Jack cabin which was really cool. Checked out the other couple homesteads along Bonanza Gulch, the "ruins" up there as well as the post office. We also checked out Prospect Mine on that trip just 'cus I'd seen it up on the hill the last couple times we'd been to Burro Schmidt and I wanted to check it out.

We've only scratched the surface on the area going out toward Mormon Flat so might try exploring out that direction some time.

I also recently saw a post somewhere about a couple spots called Colorado Camp and Apache Copper Mine we might try and find. Like I said, though: I'm all ears if you have any recommendations. We're loving it up there and still have lots of exploring left to do.

A few sunset shots near the Ouachita Mountains. All the smoke made for some beautiful colors.
