Can't believe this is the topic of my first post, but the seatbelt on my 04 Tacoma Xtra cab is wet coming out of the retractor. Any ideas how the water is getting in there and how to fix it?

Check the door seals and weather stripping on the roof. it could be pretty dry after 18 years

It's possible the belt did not retract fully and the lower part got caught in the door during wet weather. Another less likely cause is a missing body plug in the lower outer rear of the cab.

Have you possibly been rubbing, massaging or caressing it while driving?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Been driving through lots of snow or water puddles .

Wearing wet jackets in the truck? wicking down the belt

Water either coming in through the bottom rust or holes

    Leaky Door Gasket

You mean wet to the point it is soaked and water runs off??

Thanks for the thoughts. The seals and weather stripping look fine, and I see no missing body plugs. I have ever experienced wetness when my seatbelt got closed in the door on a wet day, so it might have been operator error. Still, I may have to be a bit more aware of how I express my appreciation for my companion of 17 years while we're alone, TRD-ED...

Following this thread. Have the same issue for a couple years, only after it rains and it doesn't rain here much so I haven't been too proactive about fixing it. Door seals look fine, no water stains on the headliner that would indicate a leak up there or anywhere else in the truck except for the damn seat belt getting wet whenever it rains.

Definitely isn't the belt getting stuck outside the door, it retracts just fine

I did read somewhere to try and recreate the leak by hosing the truck down in potential problem areas and trying to see where the water goes, so that's something to try.

Hey. I have been having this problem ever since we purchased the truck like 4 years ago and finally figured it out so thought I'd post some pictures of what it was in my case at least! It was just on the outer part of the cab when you open the door the metal had some very small cracks. You can pull the top seal out partway and then all it needed was a good cleaning then put some silicone seal over it and my seat belt hasn't gotten wet or soaked in the past month since I've done it during our rainy season!
