What are these end peices on the front of the frame for ?

    20220211_194642.jpg 20220211_194714.jpg I have a 2022 Taco and was watching a guy remove the "end pieces" on the front of his tacoma frame to attach some brackets. What are these end pieces for ? They are boxy looking rectangles that slide into the front cross piece of the frame under the front bumper area. They are held on by one bolt. I'll attach a picture of one attached and then with the guy holding it.

    As you can see from your first image, they provide some measure of protection to the steering components (so you might maintain control of the vehicle) in the event you strike some object...
