My fiancé and I, along with another couple are taking a cruise out of New Orleans at the end of March. We are spending two days in NOLA before our cruise, only a few blocks off Bourbon St, and was looking for some info on where to dine and drink while we are there. Definitely looking to do a crawfish boil. We can go out of town a little bit as well, I can Uber it if I have to. Thanks, Mike.

For your reference, that’s in the gap between Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. If you are here for March 25th, you would be just in time for 2022 Louisiana Crawfish Boil Championships. It’s a VERY Lenten city, so expect Friday seafood to be in high demand.

I’d need some info, but can help…. What type of food? Budget? Experience you are looking for?
Feel free to PM if you prefer.

Thanks for the reply! We like to experience what the local culture has to offer as far as food. We've never been to New Orleans and am not the type to eat burgers and pizza when so much more is available. We are probably going to stick to a mostly seafood cuisine. That craw-fish boil championship looks interesting. We are staying at an Air BNB on Burgundy Street, so some restaurants or pubs in and around Bourbon street would be helpful. We get into town around 1pm on Friday and have to board the cruise ship Sunday morning. It's not a lot of time but we'd like to make the best of it. If I had to categorize us I'd say we are laid back and like to hang out and sip some good bourbon and enjoy a great meal. It's vacation, budget goes out the window :spending: Thanks, Mike.

The French Quarter is more tourist than other parts of the city, but there are places in that area. Cafe Masparo is a good seafood spot. Acme Oysters is probably the best chargrill. Emeril Lagasse has a place (Emeril’s), but I’m a fan of La Petite Grocery (ask if they have the meat brownie). I’d suggest some reading of EATER for what is trending and also good advice. Mutates is OK, but it’s really about the atmosphere. You may also consider on of the lunch or dinner cruises on Delta Queen/Creole Queen/Cotton Queen/Etc. Food is ok, but but again, it’s about the atmosphere (food, river cruise, jazz music). Any of Brennan’s places are good (Brennan’s, Redfish Grille, Commander’s, etc.). More pricey for what you end up with, but good results. Trust me, there’s way more places than you’ll have time. Seafood is everywhere and visiting in lent is prime for experiencing. Some places do reservations, but most do a first come - first served, all members of the party must be present to be seated. Friday may see waits on 45+ or more. High end French Quarter places are Antoine’s or Galatoire’s. Brennan’s is trying to rejoin that league. There are plenty of places to drink… for adventure, try the carousel bar. Rum is the common liquor, so you may have to research Whiskey places here. There are definitely places that sell the obscure and elusive bottles. We have some good local beer places if that’s in the cards.

    Happy to help…

If you are looking for good whiskeys check out Avenue Pub on St Charles, it’s a hike from where you are staying but they have an excellent selection of rare stuff

I’ve known them for the extensive and rare beers, but haven’t been in a few years… good info to know.

The bar upstairs has a deeper selection of whiskey than beer
