sorry for yet another HU upgrade thread, but I can't find another thread that fits what I am trying to do.

I have a 2019 TRD Pro, with a JBL Entune 2.0 HU and I want to swap it out for an Entune 3.0 HU. I know that entune sucks, but don't want to lose the volume knob and also really like the factory look.

There are many other post about this, but I couldn't find one that was JBL specific.

    I'm looking at getting:
    - Entune 3.0 HU, JBL, GPS, XM (part# 86140-04210)
    - Harness from autoharnesshouse.com
    https://autoharnesshouse.com/entune.html

    Questions:
    - Has anyone does this exact thing?
    - Will I retain the Nav/Music screen on the instrument cluster (see image below)?
    - Do I need to replace the JBL AMP with a 2020+ version (as mentioned in link above)?
    - If so, anyone have a part number / info?

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FORM IF YOU HAVE JBL.

if the existing vehicle or if the new headunit that you're installing has the JBL system, then we will need to make other accomadations and the adapter ordered here will not work. Please contact us at inquiry@autoharnesshouse.com if this is your situation!”

@Taco_Coma - thanks, I saw that too and have reached out to them, but really would like to find someone who has done this exact thing and maybe willing to share a few details on the final result.

I’ve had them make me a custom harness for my radio that kept shorting out. They fixed the problem for me. Good luck!

    @Aval1996 - I was wondering that too..

I am making progress, I now have an Entune 3.0 headunit and new amp and also have a wiring harness on order from autoharnesshouse.com.

I don't know about the 360 camera, but I'm looking at adding an anytime camera system and adding a front/rear button.

@scottdogster how is this coming? Looking to do the same in my truck. What were you looking at for total cost? Thanks!

@Kabbo92 - it was a complete success for me, I'm very happy with it!

Here is what I had to buy:
    - 2020 Head Unit (part# 86140-04210)
    - 2020 AMP (part# 86280-04080 <= not 100% sure of this part number)
    - two adapter harness from autoharnesshouse.com. One for the HU and the other for the AMP
    - replacement clips for back panel (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R1QTSQ1?ie=UTF8)
    - tesa tape (to prevent rattles) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09KHKX9Y5?ie=UTF8)

    The install was straight forward...
    1. removed back seats and back panel to gain access to the AMP
NOTE: you will probably break some of the red clips, buy new ones in advance.
    2. replaced old AMP with new one
    3. plugged in new AMP using adapter harness
    4. removed radio bezel and HU
    5. connect new radio to vehicle with adapter harness. I took my time on this step, just to make sure I got all the clips connected to the correct spot and made sure they fully clicked into place.
    6. did a quick test to make sure all speakers (front/back/right/left), audio paths (am/fm/xm), USB and GPS where working
    7. put it all back together.

After that, I did perform a factory reset on the HU and then upgraded the HU and navigation firmware (https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates).

I was happy to see that the instrument cluster navigation/music tabs (I mentioned in my prior post) where working as before, basically I did not lose any factory functionality.

    Cost:
HU + AMP - this is hard to say because the guy I bought it from sold me the HU, AMP and subwoofer assembly for ~ $750
    Harness - $270

I also added a wireless carplay adapter ($90), now I just get in my truck, start it and carplay works, I don't even have to take my phone out of my pocket.

Good luck with your upgrade and let me know if you have any more questions!

where did you buy the head unit from? $750 is a good price for HU and amp.

@Pro-Taco - I found it on this forum, another member had listed it in the “Buy / Sell / Trade” area. He happened to live only a couple hours away, so I jumped on it.

He had just upgraded is truck with some high end auto stuff and had pulled out the entire JBL system.

I felt pretty lucky to find the deal, but I think if you watch the buy/sell, you will find something similar.

I also looked at car-part.com but those HU go for around $1K and don't even come with the AMP.

    good luck!

Did you use your original bezel without modification or adapters?

I am curious about the video quality of the reverse camera. The 2020+ folks have a really bad image compared to the older Tacos.

@tonered - in my opinion, the backup image looks noticeably better than it did when compared to the 2019 HU. The screen is bigger, the colors look brighter and I can see the bumper more clearly. I’ll try and post a picture later today.

Good stuff. So, the mystery continues as to wassup with the 2020+ Tacos. I have been shocked seeing the difference, esp for a newer model.

I did that, but eventually swapped to the germes setup on the steering wheel. Much happier with it.

I have some stuff ordered up. I also have the Germes front camera and I wonder if my setup now will work with the Entune 3.0 or if I will need to get another module for the 3.0. I think I may have read that somewhere on here.

Post back if you find out. I’ve considered jumping to 3.0 if a good deal came along. I think an adapter cable may be required?
