I went down under my truck today to change the engine oil and noticed a bit of metal is broken off of this part

Pardon me, I don't know how to call this thing that's sandwiched between the engine and the transmission, I have 2WD so no transfer case for me.

The yellow circled is where that hole is

    bp3.jpg

here is a close look at that, it's rough on the edges so I assume it's not designed to look like that

    bp4.jpg

    here is another angle

Everything is bone dry so I'm not sure if this part actually holds fluid or not

Should I be worried? Do I need to seal it with a heat resistant tape or something?

    Thanks in advance

thanks, lots of things went through my mind, I was angry that someone at Guanajuato didn't catch this glaring piece "broken off" when they applied the gasket.I was planning on being a Karen tomorrow at my dealership yelling at them for not doing the PDI properly. You saved me from potential humiliation.

But still, looks like this weep hole is not gracefully done, or it's an afterthought, someone just chiseled the edge with a hammer or something, leaving serrated edges

Don't feel bad OP. If I did not know what that was, I would have looked at that with a skeptical eye myself.
