Remember when

This deserves a comment and not just a like!

 

Well I wasnt around at the time but I thought some of you might find this funny.

My dad (carpenter for 30+ years) always told me that when he was younger the brick layers were allowed to still drink on the job around where I live. So as they were putting up walls they would slowly accumulate more and more beer cans. Now I ask you where would be the logical place to dispose of said cans? Right in the wall of course! Not kidding. My grandfather built and opened a shop and when they went to do an addition or tear the building down they found the old cans in the rubble. He said it was like opening a time capsule.

I also hear stories and see pictures of places that used to be cornfields. Even the pictures of my dad building a house I lived in showed the giant neighborhoods that are here now were not there 20 years ago.

I also have heard story's where my great grandma drove through a large park as shortcut to get to her house and never got in trouble. The area wasnt very developed at the time so nobody was really out there. It wasnt like she did it once or twice but did it enough to make ruts in the grass and created a trail going right toward her house. So imagine an old lady driving a boat on wheels Lincoln going through a park and headed straight to her house without batting an eye. I could never imagine that happening today.

That's a pretty nice collection. Only thing I see that is missing is a stop sign.

 

As a teenager my friends and I would carry our beer in a duffle bag. We’d walk thru the park to the paddle boats, sit on them while we drank our beer in broad daylight. When we were done we tossed the cans and paddle until we pushed the cans down the stream. (I would never toss my cans now, young and dumb) Not a care in the world, nor was there a cop in sight. Those were the good ol days

Oh ya also when my dads father died when he was younger he got his dads business truck. It had the top trim package but that wasnt what made it cool. It had an actual phone in it! I believe he said it was the only one that had one in the area.

Sounds like you had a great time growing up! This whole thread is making my childhood look more and more lame. I guess the only cool thing about my childhood was starting to drive a skid steer at the age of 7 or so.

You guys remember Scholastic Book Club in elementary school? You'd fill out a form with the book you'd want, give them a few bucks to cover the cost and then a week or so later they'd be delivered in class? I got a lot of Choose Your Own Adventure and Encyclopedia Brown books that way.

 

Both of those were the shizzit..loved them
