It's worth looking at the Titanium 170 at harbor freight. There are several folks here running them. Fits your description above, and pretty good welder for the money.

 

You'll pick up welding easy.

 

it was my first real project - I did practice for quite a bit on scrap before - and Still practicing quite a bit after. Go for it.

 

Real question. Do you push your caulk puddles?

 

And can you do out of position caulking?

 

Some times. All gaps aren't the same. You have to be able to do both when caulking, just like welding. I'd rather push my welds, just my preference.

 

I pull my caulk. Wipe up the puddles later.

 

Sometimes you have to practice the reverse grip to get into those tight spots

 

Not my best work but had to do an exhaust with flux core on lowest setting and wire speed. My gas tank for mig blew the diaphragm so I had to improvise, swapped polarity and threw in the flux core wire. It was really windy that day so it worked out. Just following the pool is totally different on fcaw than gmaw. Had some small blowouts but was easily corrected.

I honestly didn't think welding an exhaust with fcaw was at all possible lol

 

that is some nice work with the rebar. looks really square! im a gc so we have alot of leftover 3/5 rebar that i could fab something like this up.

 

Snapped a few transmission mounts as well due to 35"s. Put together a rudimentary mount with home depot hardware (stock plastic retainer/bolt strips out fast) but purchased a universal mount to weld into the OEM mount. Should be fun, gathered some rough dimensions to weld it all up.

 

I swear, we're like a bunch of 12 year olds around here

 

Some of us didn`t but that was to work on the Ark no videos back in those days

 

Real talk though, I hate caulking, give me a mig torch any day.

First time ever doing TIG, so constructive criticisms needed



Definitely went faster, but with more heat afterwards. Found out that I was running too low and staying in the metal too long, but fortunately I found out right away.

That's before I was figuring out that I need to run hotter, and further away. I've been doing a ton of stick at school, and MIG at work, so changing habits was kind of hard.

For instance, as I moved the puddle, I had a tendency to go further into it like you would with stick. Kept reminding myself to pick up.

Will be doing more next week in school, was just my first time so thought I'd post.
