Any rub? I believe he's right on the 0 offset. I'm running the same tire on a 16x7 -7mm and I get some rub and light cab mount rubbing. You have a lift though so you might only get rubbing at full stuff?

So I just purchased method 701 17x8.5. The original plan was to get 285/70/17's and was looking for a different rim so I wouldn't have to run spacers. I am now debating on 255/80/17 (?). Would they look dumb on the selected rims or should I stick with the 285s

The reason I am debating on the 255's is because I will mostly use the truck for daily driving and some logging roads so the skinny would be better for MPG and what not. Any thoughts or comments on my internal debate?

You will be pushing the limits with a 8.5” wheel. I have 8” with 255 and it’s fine.

IMO the look definitely won't be ideal. Personally, I'd buy new wheels before changing tire size. But that's because I like skinnies and want to limit rubbing and/or the need for trimming.

@JBDLB Check the manufacturer specs of the tires you are going to order. They will list the approved rim widths for that tire. For the 255's I've checked before, 8.5" was the max approved width.

I'm running 255/80/17's on a 8.5" wide wheel. I've had no issues, but haven't aired down below 18 psi just in case.

35x10.5 Kenda Rts still trucking along. Put them through a week of desert at Koh without a problem, drove home smooth and quiet back to Washington. Near 27k miles on them now.

Howdy all. I'm currently running 285/70/17 Cooper S/T Maxx on FJ wheels. I was originally going to get a new set of wheels and go up to 295/75/16s. I mainly want to get rid of the wheel spacers that I need to have. I still have my factory wheels for my 2010 Off-road and it got me thinking about getting 255/85/16s instead. So obviously this size will clear with no issues. I'm running Total Chaos uppers and their gusseted spindles and OME nitros with 886 coils. What I'm wondering is will I be able to run this size on factory wheels and still clear the gusseted spindles without spacers?

Factory wheels with no spacers would be cutting it very close to the spindle gusset. I'd just throw one of the stock wheels on sometime to verify.

Yea I would typically not have to air down past 15, however the rims do have the "bead grip technology"

Loving my Coopers. 255/80/17 on a 8.5 rim. It's my daily, i have a 60 mile round trip commute 4 days a week. These don't kill my tank as bad ass 285 mud terrains did.

I’ve gone down to 12 PSI with my 35x10.5 Kendas on my 7” SEMA wheels without issues.

What did you have to do to run these? CMC/pinch weld for sure but regear?

So when I had 0 offset wheels with no wheel spacers, I had just a normal cmc, pinch weld pounded flat, and heat molded the inner fender in the front. No trimming needed in the rear. To this day I am actually still on stock gears, and dont really have a problem with the driveability of the truck. Gets alright mpgs (13-15 city, up to 19 on the highway). Does just fine offroad as well, doubted I am running a big tranny cooler with a fan to keep the tranny happy. I do have a basic Ov tune, which totally changed the truck and it does great on the highway shifting wise.
