Tool Roll: What’s in your bag?

Hi Fellas (and fellow ladies),

I’m putting together my must have tools for my onboard tool roll and thought I’d ask you first….

What’s in your onboard bag/box/cubby etc? What are the must have tools in your truck?

(For what’s it’s worth, I have a Step22 tool roll.)

You need:
1. A 10mm socket and ratchet
2. An adjustable wrench
3. A small pry bar
4. Duct Tape
5. Ratchet straps
6. Zip Ties.
7. Knife

You can carry your whole tool box and still not be able to make a repair.
However, if you carry the above seven items, if you break something you can loosen or cut it, tape it, tie it up, tie it down and tighten it up. You will then get to a place that has proper tools.

Seriously.

 

Don't forget the bailing wire, zip ties and duct tape doesn't play well with the exhaust system

 

I would add a pair of Vice Grip pliers to that list. Keep it basic, as stated you will not be doing major repairs out there. The intent here is have what you need to patch up and limp home.

PS: and some of that 4 inch wide Gorilla repair tape is handy to have too. That shit is pretty amazing!

They definitely come in handy. I’ve used a lot of them over the years.

 

Not the complete set, but most of it. I've added an allen key set and a torx set.

 

I keep a small tool bag with 10-19mm 3/8” sockets and ratchet, 10-17mm wrenches, an adjustable wrench, Phillips and flat tip screw driver, vice grips, duct tape and zip ties. Probably some other random stuff in there too but those are the basics for most stuff on the truck or anything else out there.

 

Typically I carrry a code reader and what it takes to change a belt, a tire, repair a vacuum line, and tighten a battery cable or throttle body. Any more than that and you are probably calling a tow truck. Most often used: zip ties, vacuum line.

 

Make that multiple 10mm's. Long and short. At least one will run away.

I have tool boxes. Seeing the above thread reminds me to grab a spare belt. Anyone got the part number? I'll probably hit up Napa tomorrow for it.

 

Rather than a 10mm, I carry one of those Gator Grip multi socket things and a 3/8. Fits a 7 to 19 mm and anything in between. I’ve even turned an eyelet and a wingnut with mine, It’s a been a very handy tool.

Just buy it at a HD, Lowes, or some other reputable tool store, Amazon has a lot of reviews on it with people getting a Chinese counterfeit. The real one is made in USA

I’m also buying those metal zip ties right now lol…I had no idea those existed.
