Hi guys, new here. I recently bought a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4.0 automatic. Bought the truck and cats were stollen. Did a cat delete with flowmaster. Ran great for 2 weeks. Went back in to muffler shop becasue it had a small exhaust leak. They repaired but when I drove it again it now has a rough idle and won’t rev passed 3000rmps. Getting codes p0102(changed maf…still the same problem) p0051, p0031 but I think that’s because there are no downstream 02 sensors becasue of cat delete. If anyone could give some advice I’d appreciate it. I’m at a loss right now and don’t know what to do…

    Install new cats.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld.

Quick edit: Should add that after installing new cats to also install something to prevent a 2nd theft of said cats. Gotta make sure them cats aren’t just running away all nimbly bimbly and such.

Do you think new cats will solve the problem? I was driving a good 2 weeks with a pipe welded where the cats went with no issues. Also heard of other guys doing the same thing with no problem on Tacomas.

Let’s think about it a bit meow. Presumably there were no problems when the cats were there. Now cats are gone and problems happen. Coincidence?

Yes that’s because cats are gone, it’s kind of what they do.

not enough info to actually know anything but...
was it just the secondary cats under the truck or the primaries that are integrated into the exhaust manifolds
as Wi Taco said cats take unburned fuel and "burn it"
also the down stream O2 sensors are probably reporting that the truck it running lean so the computer is actually running richer than it should

A 17 year old truck has the catalytic converters stolen. Newer cars/trucks, like the F250 or Ram 2500 can bring up to and over $1,000. Why mess with a 17 year old truck. WTH is this world coming to!

    Bummer for the OP. $$$

Thanks for the input. The weird thing is I had the cat delete done about 2 weeks ago. Someone had stollen primary and secondary cats awhile ago. Didn’t have the money to put all new cats in so I straight piped each cat. Was running perfect for 2 weeks, about 600 miles. Went into shop so they could patch a weld in the exhaust. When I picked the truck up the second I started it died, then started back up, idled rough, on my way home I realized it wouldn’t go passed 3k rpms, almost like the engine would shut off but I can press on the gas again just can’t go passed 3k. Also the exhaust smells a hell of a lot more now then it did these passed to 2 weeks

I have the upstream o2 sensors but no downstream. Downstreams we’re stollen along with the cats. But from my knowledge downstream should not effect engine

Like stated above, install new cats and O2 sensors to fix your issue. How can the ECM control the A/F ratio if there's no sensors to offer feedback?

Problem solved! Ended up being a itty-bitty EFI #2 fuse. Idles and drives like a charm. Hope this can help somebody else because it was hard finding information on my problem. Thanks
