My clutch is bad i know i need a new one i just don’t know what to get. LCE has a kit, lightweight flywheel with clutch and everything but there’s also a heavy flywheel which one would be better i do like to race and have fun but i also like to cruise i’m just unsure also on a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to drop the trans and do it myself

If you crawl off-road with big tires get the heavy. If you like to scoot on the street light.

Doing a clutch job is about a 8/10 if you've never done one.

Transmissions for 4 cylinders aren't too bad - they are lighter and easier to handle/manhandle out of/into position as needed. Lots of piddly stuff to do while you're in there just so you don't have to go digging in again just because an old seal that you didn't replace suddenly start leaking (for example). You will have to contend with all the 4x stuff if you're 4x4 though.

I don't know about more recent models, but for my original "Toyota Pickup" (ie. when they had no creativity in naming products), the OEM clutches were made by Exidy.

This is rarely a job for a novice.

Do you have the space to let it sit on stands for a couple days if things go slowly or you find the need for more parts? Do you have an above average supply of tools?

If so, good, but also recommend finding someone who is experienced with this exercise to assist, or at least be present and coach you with the process. For most of us it's much easier to learn that way, rather than only watching You Tube for something this complex.

As has been mentioned, there are many other things you'll want to pay attention to and likely address while the trans is dropped, especially if this is a 'keeper' vehicle.

yes this is a keeper vehicle. i did watch chrisfix a little bit and it does not seem too bad. and yes, i have all the needed tools i’ve spent more in tools than car parts lol.

i have already made a list of the parts i need, the clutch kit comes with a flywheel, rear main seal, already have medium thread locker, also need to get a pilot bearing removal kit and a trans jack, might get a clutch fork but it’s that all i need? i’m planning on doing it soon like next month or the month after

You may want to also replace the input shaft seal on the trans as well since the trans will be dropped anyway. You may also want to be sure of how you are going to keep the flywheel from rotating when you torque it down, as most flywheel bolts require a fair amount of torque. Not uber torque, but enough where you need some way of countering that. For the pilot bearing, many people just use the wet bread technique (or heavy grease).

chrisfix put a bolt in slightly on the flywheel, and then one where the trans bolts go and put a wrench on em and seemed like it worked very well. and yes, i saw the bread technique but since i have a list i might as well just get the tool from oreilys or something. could you send me links to all the seals you think should be replaced id like to save them

You can just go to Rock Auto's website and drill down to your particular model. In transmission>manual, look for input shaft seal.
