No problem, we have done quite a few Tacoma's with very low miles. It is a smart move; you won't be disappointed!!

I am interested in the Oxnard event. Are there still openings available?

Can anyone who has tried both KDMax 7.0 and KDMax pro tell me about the differences for a MT?

I am not going to lie, my MT feels slow unless I grab it by the scruff of the neck. I just sold my 09 4.0L with 255k on it, and the 09 was considerably more responsive and torque-ier in the lower rev range. That engine at 1700rpm felt like this one at 2700rpm. It also had E rated goodyear wranglers on it.

    @PapaRee
Still really enjoying the Pro tune overall. Have had 600 lbs of sand in the bed for the winter so have been using 91-93 for the long mountain ski trip drives where power is key to not being killed by idiots on the turnpike. Not a speedy vehicle by any means but it gets it done. It’ll feel like a Porsche when I take the 600 lbs out LOL.

ANYWAY, I was just curious if you’ve heard any news or progress on the VF front as far as map switching capability. While not critical, I would still really love an easy way to switch between Stock, Normal, and Sport throttle. Although improved over 6.0, Normal is still too aggressive to me on any snow covered roads where stock would be beneficial. But the 98% of the time I’m on normal dry roads, Normal is perfect.

Admittedly I have not gotten to test Normal in 4Lo, which I’ve been meaning to do. I believe you mentioned that the throttle was dialed back and improved in 4Lo for Normal, which I’m hoping it was. Last trip to rocky off road areas on 6.0 SLT, it was way too jumpy for me as the drops off of rocks caused my foot to touch the throttle a tiny bit and that ended causing bucking since it was like a circular cause and effect. Anyway, hopefully Normal Pro in 4Lo is dialed way back, but that could also be another scenario great for map switching (back to stock) when bumbling over rough stuff in 4Lo.

Thanks again for the great work.

it's more full all around, 3rd pulls noticeably harder, first was a little bit easier to modulate for me. mileage on my truck went down 1-2. some report mileage improving you probably have seen so take that as you will.

No way around the fact that the 4.0 was a truck motor with tons of torque. This is a Toyota platform motor that also goes in their cars, and behaves that way.

i reread your post... if you can naturally grab the truck by the scruff, if you want more torque delivery, and if you want more response, there's a HUGE solution available that is really effective on the MT trucks. i have this mod and I'll say for the MT trucks this is about the best performance mod i have, especially combined with a tune and maybe exhaust as well. not many here seem to wrap their heads around this one for whatever reason. but it's a game changer if you aren't shy about really using this motor.

Purchased OVtune tuner bundle and KDmax Pro tune pack on Friday, received the flash tool yesterday, flashed each tune, and settled on the lite throttle since I will be commuting. Very happy!

I read that entire thread, and also your build thread. And you are a subaru person too? Lets just say I'm going to take your advice. But ill wait to change the mounts when my warranty is expired :D. this is my first new vehicle, ever. I am 35. I'm gradually going to increase capability and I think you make an excellent point about why motor mounts are huge for this truck.

Yes, according to Mat at Vftuner, there is some Map Switching functions that will be added to the software.
The ability to have Gearlock in SMode, and have ECT as a different map- like lite throttle or sport throttle- will be what I am looking for.

I am not sure when that will happen. As soon as it is available to me, it will be available to you.

I was running 7.0 on my MT for a few months before the Pro tune was released. I can say for sure it wasn't as big of an improvement as it was going from OV Tune to 7.0, however, I personally noticed better refinement of how the truck drives in gears 1-3 at slower speed vs how it felt on 7.0.

Can any tunes get more low end torque from these 3.5's ? I don't care if it sacrifices higher rpm HP.

Yes, the KDMax-Pro tune has more low-end torque and more higher end HP. You can also use ECT for towing and holding gears longer.
The first post has all the information that you are looking for.

So does this tune also make the truck perform better with the cruise control on?
