That is bizarre. I did not know the dealership could do that. I would imagine the dealership would want the sale regardless of how it's paid for.

Case in point, I financed through USAA least year. I was pre-approved for 1.8%APR with my 835 credit score.

I didn't realize I let the dealership run a credit report on me and their best APR offer would have been 3%. I found this out after the fact/during signing.

Lesson learned, put a lock on your credit report so even if the dealership does a credit check, it will come back reported as locked.

After negotiating pricing, add-ons, and trade-in, let the dealership know you have pre-approved loan.

If not accepted, I'd recommend going to another dealership. That's difficult to do because you want the Tacoma real bad.

See how bad they want the sale and mean what you say.

    My thoughts from my experience.

There is true 7 years ago. I doubt that you can get 3% off MSRP paying cash now on a Tacoma.
All loans I have I paid off early, never paid full interest.

So, again the argument drifts from: ‘you get a better price with a loan’ to ‘now and then’…

    apples and bowling balls fellas.

    and…

why would anyone pay any loan off early if they’re banking coin on Wall St. clocking 10% for the last 20years?

You are thinking buying car as if was 7 years ago.

    Hey guys,

I ordered a 2022 Tacoma and it will get here tomorrow. I am pre approved through my credit union and called the dealership to get the purchase order bc that’s what the bank needed. The rep I talked too over the phone basically told me that if I didn’t finance through the dealership I’d have to pay 2000 dollars over the msrp due to the deal ships being one sourced through SE Toyota.. kinda weird I wasn’t ever told. Anyone know anything about this and whether it’s BS or not?

So you're saying the dealer said, great you're paying cash we're going to give you an additional 3% off of MSRP?

I’m not saying he said that, I’m saying that is what happened.

Yeah I missed the point of the thread. After reading the original post. It's better to just be out of payments as soon as possible.

Look at his invoice from 7 years ago. That was what he was paying, but you really can't get 3% off MSRP in 2022 with cash offer. Cash is no longer a "Carrot" to the dealer.

Paying lower than MSRP doesn't mean you got a discount because you paid cash. You can receive that same % lower (probably more) financing.

To be clear. You're claiming you negotiated your sale price and then said I'm paying cash and they knocked another 3% off because of that?

    I don’t think so.

I think this dude ‘s got a sleazy dealer, didn’t read his fine print, probably ‘needs’ a new truck and probably has to take a loan.

We don’t know what would happen if he walked in with $$$$….

From what I have been reading lately around here, hearing anecdotally and observing locally, today cash money gets you straight MSRP and you wait three months for delivery.
