    We purchased the 1999 Tacoma TRD new in October 1999.
    5VZ-FE V6 engine, 5 speed manual transmission, no modifications.
    We didn't need much work other than basic maintenance for the first 100000 miles.

    Here's a list of 'major' work performed over the years:
    As primary vehicle 1999 - 2013 (date - work done - mileage)
    • October 24, 2000 power steering pump (warranty) 13437
    • March 30, 2010 fuel system service 117377
    • June 29, 2010 timing belt / belts / water pump / spark plugs 119555
    • September 8, 2010 brake work- replace front pads, turned rotors 121932
    • May 21, 2012 replace front struts, rear shocks 142000
    • April 20, 2013 spark plugs / wires / filters / PCV valve 150639
    • April 25, 2013 driveline service - upgrade to synthetic 150639
    As 2nd vehicle - lightly driven
    • January 10, 2014 replace alternator 156643
    • January 25, 2019 brake work - replace front pads and rotors 160441
    • August 12, 2019 oil change - upgrade to synthetic 161952
    • February 1, 2020 Sylvania Silverstar halogen 9003 bulbs 162649
    • October 2021 first ever CEL appears
    • November 2, 2020 clean Mass Air Flow sensor 163880
    • November 2021 upgrade most bulbs to LED 164460
    • February 2022 CEL code P0325 (knock sensor circuit 1) 164615

    Work that I will be undertaking in the near future. I don't have an indoor work space, so most of these will be warm weather projects out on the dirt driveway.
    • examine drum brakes and parking brake system, clean, adjust and lube as needed;
    • replace u-joints and center bearing;
    • change fuel filter (perhaps done back in 2010?);
    • replace all vacuum hoses;
    • replace cylinder head cover gaskets;
    • replace radiator (slight upper tank leak) & hoses;
    • (perhaps) remove the intake manifold and replace the knock sensor wiring harness.
    • It was recommended in 2019 that I replace the tie-rod ends, so I'll most likely tackle those, too.
    I will be on this forum in the future asking questions about parts and prices, reading past advice and attempting to determine who to listen to (and who blows smoke!).
    Hopefully after I post this, I'll stop getting bugged to "Post Something!!" .

    Nothing - had the frame inspected in 2014 after getting/seeing the notice, no problems. Some minor 'cancer' starting to show up behind passenger rear wheel. Paint is starting to 'flake' a bit after 20+ years of high altitude sun. Truck has never been garaged.
    Humidity levels dry as a bone here in Colorado 90% of the time, minor road salting compared to other places.
    I'm going to concentrate on mechanical fixes/upgrades, not cosmetic.
