Why not play it safe and change it every 50,000 miles? DIY < $100.

I’ll do anything to keep from having to replace that plastic coolant Y pipe at the rear of the engine. I’m hoping a $100 every 50,000 miles will reduce the chance of that pipe degrading and costing me much more.

Any Toyota dealer should have the OEM stuff that you can buy. I just bought a gallon for $25. It’s a little bit more expensive, but you won’t have any worries and a gallon of coolant will last a loooong time if you’re just topping off.

You make a good point. I also said in another comment that it would take 10 years for some to go 100,000 miles or something. 50,000 is better. I think it's better to base when to replace the coolant on time more than miles because the addictive package looses effectiveness over time. About 5 years is what AMD says.
