I found a set with a magnifying glass on the end. 58 year old eyes aren’t what they used to be.

 

The very best splinter removal tool is a micrometer. The jaws are perfectly parallel.

 

I promise, remember this, and try it.

Thanks! Ya, we've got 4 or 5 days after taking possession before the kids move in. Their rooms are definitely the focus. Gotta make it look nice for once before the 2 and 4 yr old move in

What are the lines between the dovetails?

 

Typically, they aren't as visible, but the tannins reacted to the finishing method I used. Some people love them, others sand them away. I appreciate how they distinguish the difference between handcut and router cut.

 

Well... that didn't work. Applied the gel, let it sit for a few minutes, wiped it off and got this. Looks like it was drug through the dirt. I think there's too much shellac on the surface. I'm going to sand it to remove the surface shellac but leave the shellac in the pores/grain. Then try wipe on/wipe off penetrating stain. This is a test box and it's the bottom, so not too worried about it.

 

Denatured alcohol gets shellac off i believe

 

I mean, this AND you could probably get rid of most of it...but is it worth all that time? Would take a pile of rags to be sure.
