Should I go full Karen and ask to speak to the sales manager?

Put a deposit two weeks ago on a Tacoma. They tried to give me some in their allocation but they found one on their sister store in LA. So I signed papers, agreed to the interest rate and put down a deposit. It has a permanent vin. I let two weeks go buy and called the salesman, I said "hey I know your busy, but in the next day could you tell me where I'm at with my vehicle's status. Well, he sounded like I was harassing him almost, but said he would call the next day.
Several days went buy so I went to visit him on Saturday. He almost seemed liked I was harassing him. All he could do was brag that they got 8 Tundras in and sold 6 of them in 3 hours that day. He then answered my question by saying wait two weeks and we'll see if it is available, you never know when we're trading amongst our sister dealerships.

That is not what he said when I was searching for the vehicle, they offered several allocations for me to look at but it was not what I wanted. So they came up with one that had everything I wanted. I negotiated the price with a $5K markup, but no add ons of anykind.

My question is I just want to know if somebody like the sales manager could call the other store and make sure it is coming in and there is a deposit on it. If not, I'll move on. Or will it cause trouble and sink the deal?

Yes I have read the thread in it's entirety on the wait times for 2022 models, but I wanted to post this in case someone had quit following that thread.

Any thoughts or insights into this would be appreciated.

The sister dealer probably doesn't have it on there lot, it probably hasn't even been built yet. It has been allocated to that dealer, they are waiting. The dealer will always put you on a list and take your money though.

It does have a permanent vin number and I looked it up on vinchecheck.com

It shows it exists and it has never been sold.

 

Yep, went to look at a 2022 here in Omaha and none of the 3 Toyota dealerships here in town had any trucks; new or used. The dealer was of course willing to do the normal looking around for stock in the local tri state area.
I looked at a Corolla they had on the floor and they had a couple other vehicles there too, all had a "market adjustment" added onto their stickers of 5k. After the salesman came back with some of the vehicles in the area that matched what I wanted he lmk that the market adjustment for trucks in my area was 8,000.

 

The problem with that is, some dealers won't sell to out of state customers.

The sales manager at the place I purchased from is the LAST person you would want to speak with.

High pressure sales was his only game.

CA law you can get any deposit refunded. I'd get my money back immediately, then go to another dealer. That one is clearly playing games.

You can certainly ask for the sales manager, but he/she is probably the one who taught your salesperson the tactic he used to take your deposit money. Did you pay your deposit by check or credit card?

 

Credit card, I've read not to pay cash on deposit s.

Try calling North Hollywood Toyota. Speak with the sales manager there and see when their allocation arrival date is or if you get any info on that vin#

 

Good move. Go ahead, speak to the sales manager. If you get the same BS then walk from that dealer because all they are trying to do is keep you on the hook with that deposit. Before you go in, check and see if they actually charged your card for the deposit. If they did then ask them to credit you back, and if they won't call the credit card company and dispute the charge.

 

I did, it indicates week 1
