Depends what you call a scratch. I've had a good glass coating on my truck, and yes it does stop brush, and similar stuff as that from leaving scratches on the exterior surface. Its prevented paint chips also. I'm sure if i take a screwdriver, or key i can make a good scratch in the surface. No ceramic protection will protect a surface if you try hard enough to scuff it....just like a thief if they want to steal your truck bad enough, their going to take it no matter how well its protected.

I did just see a video of a YouTube guy named Mike Giano who used a product called Cerakote Trim . It did a good job of hiding and ‘restoring ’ the look of his scuffed Tacoma interior. His Tacoma videos are fun to watch .

glass is not paint. You are going to have a hard time giving glass some real scratches so that's not even a proper comparison. Ceramic coating will NOT stop scratches from off-roading. the ONLY type it will protect from is improper washing as in micro marring. Stop telling false information giving more people who might think a ceramic coating will stop them from getting scratches from off-roading or someone rubbing against the paint with some rough coating. The coating will NOT stop those scratches. NOTHING but PPF will stop a rock chip. For the love of god please stop saying a coating has stopped your truck from rock chips. People like you who tell this BS information is what makes others who get a coating get disappointed because someone gave such false info on what a ceramic coating actually provides.

Good work. I’m going in the same direction. What did you do with the speaker grilles? Are they separable from the door panels?

roger that. Giving Toyota credit where credit is due, the shapes and geometry of the Tacoma interior are on point. Rivals much higher end vehicles imho. But obviously they skimped on the materials.

fortunately this is easily fixed with time and or money- the panels need to be covered

my 1999 Civic “beater” has nicer materials. No joke. The dash and door cards are vinyl wrapped from the factory. I think it is only the last 15 years or so manufacturers stopped doing this and started shipping one piece molded in textured interior parts. It’s like sitting inside a soda bottle.

It's the use of talc-filled polypropylene for it's economical effect on stability. Alternative fillers tend to cost more and have a undesirable feel and appearance.

Appreciate the reply. So these panels are talc filled polypropylene? I could have sworn that I have seen better quality in other makes which is not vinyl covered. BMW, for example. Any idea what they use?

Cover King. I have had them now for almost 3 years, and they still look like brand new and have stayed in place. So they still look like original seats and not seat covers, which is good!

The interior was done and in talking with the installer about it, we both decided that it would look better if we just left the speaker grills as they were, and afterwards, I think you can agree they do look better with stock grills!

Thank you. Are the speaker grills removable (even if that means cutting off a melted on tab)? That is ideally what I would like to know ahead of time.

With the panel on it is hard to tell if the speaker grill is just molded on as a part of the panel. Wouldn't surprise me-it would make for cost-effective vehicle assembly.

I have posted this before but I used a black shoe dye cream and used a foam like paint brush to apply it. It dries like a semi gloss and covers and matches perfect. Then a nice interior dressing and you cannot tell. I have used it on my friend Tacoma on some small scratches and on mine as well. You need to reapply it every so often, maybe like every 6 months or so. I will post a pic of the product later.

I wish I could be sure, but I am pretty darn sure that the grill does come off, but not 100% sure. I am attaching some pics I found from when I was taking the panels apart, etc, and maybe they will help with some insight. Also, when I was talking with the vinyl installer at the time, he asked me if I wanted to cover the grills or not, and I told him then that I thought it would look better if we left the grills black, which I think, was the right decision. So that also seems to tell me that the grills were removable. IMG_20200224_085552_4.jpg

none of the previous cars i have ever owned had scratched up interior door panels, and i do not baby my vehicles at all. the interior materials of this truck are dogshit. it should not wear as easily as it does. i would love to know if there is any solution to this.

quick frands check out the interior on my taco! forget what it does off the pavement. the interior is where this baby shines!

my biggest pet peeve is; yes, toyota did use cheap ass plastic but maybe that is to show that the truck is being used as a truck and not a mall crawler. the plastic behind the rear fold downs have been destroyed by my doggo already but that's ok because fuck it, can't see it if the seats are up haha.
