Remote start

I have a 21 or trd with factory remote start. I remote start my truck every morning with the 3 press and hold lock button method. The usual, truck shuts off when opening the door and have to restart again with button. But this morning I was puzzled , I remote start the engine but did not shut off when opening the door so I was puzzled so I press the brake still nothing still running then put it in reverse shuts off. Now does not start . Pressing it on and off still nothing just accessory on ...doesn't start.. so I don't know what happen.. So the only thing I can think is disconnect the battery , so I did . Press the button still nothing so tried again then bam finally started
Anyone encountered this problem?? I called the dealer they have no clue

 

That's some crazy voodoo right there.

I just can't get myself to move past the standard metal key into remote start. Just not ready for it.

Hopefully it's just a software glitch in your system.

 

Your still under warranty. so don't sweat it, call a dealer and set a time for them to fix it.
(hope there close)
PS: i would have tried the battery first also, sorry i can't give you any clues to this.

I tried remote start again works as usual shuts off everytime you open the door. So I'm trying to figure out what happen, so I thought maybe maybe I forgot to lock the truck when trying to remote start so surley enough it did it again. Didn't want to start need to disconnect battery ,works again. So apparently when you try to remote start 21 or and it's unlocked it confuses the system and won't start unless you disconnect battery
Thanks for the replies and I'm glad I invested in the 10 year warranty didn't want at first because my2 nd gen didn't give me any problems but with this new models they have so much electronic stuffs

Well I'm happy you got it working im sure you are not the only one.

 

Instead of unplugging the battery to clear the issue, try manually locking and unlocking the door with a key from the outside. Maybe this will reset something. Then see if all works properly after that.

 

I would pay attention to whether the interior lights come on when you open the driver's door. Maybe the door switch is sticking and the truck doesn't realize a door has been opened.

 

I have a 2021 Sport and never had any problems with the remote start. I never lock the truck when I leave it parked by the house unless it locks itself when walking away. The truck remote starts every time whether doors are locked or not. I think the remote will not work if doors are not locked that is why when you push click on the FOB it locks it. just saying

 

I can't even get mine to work on the Tacoma I picked up last Saturday.

 

Depending on what package you have. I have the Premium Package and the remote came with it not the app of which I did not subscribe to.
There is always a reason why the remote start does not work. Check it out just saying.

 

This has happened to me and others a few times OP. I usually just get out of the truck do a few cycles of lock/unlock to reset the system and it's good to go. Over the last 2.5 years I've had it happen twice. So it's not common and I just chalk it up the car getting confused.

 

The remote start on these trucks is such a joke. It almost always takes me multiple tries to get mine to work and you have to be close to the truck which kinda ruins the point.

 

I thought it sucked too compared to other after market remote start that I had on my previous Taco. At first I had trouble doing it, too was too fast or to slow or skipped the 3 click lol. Now it works like a charm once you catch on how to use it.
