Exhaust bolt

    Taking off the exhaust of my 2017 taco trd off road. Done everything from penetrating oil to cheeter stick but they will not budge. There are the bolts right after the 2 sides meet at the 'Y'. The flange bolts. Are they traditional righty tighty lefty loose or am I missing something? The bolts are not rusted or damaged at all. Seem perfect. Like they put some lock tight at the factory.

    I could not knock mine loose by hand either. Got my compressor and air impact wrench - set pressure to 80 psi. after about 10 seconds they came loose. install in reverse same process.

    Gently heat up the bolts/nuts with your new torch. Not too hot. Then melt some beeswax onto the threads and let it seep in. Gently rap the side of the nut with a hammer. Then try. Won't move. Then either use a air/electric impact wrench or just a hand impact which you can get at Harbor Freight. Should come right off.

    Why are you taking the exhaust off of a brand new truck?? Ever hear of the " don't fuck with it" theory?? There is nothing you can do with the exhaust that will improve anything.

    Use an impact gun. If you don't have one, then buying a gas bottle for brazing copper pipe from homedepot / lowes will work, but it's a shit option for an unrusted / no locktight bolt. Depending on room, using the handle from your trolly jack (or any long pipe) on the ratchet will give more leverage than a an impact gun. That would be preferable over heat for the bolt in question.

    Just grab an impact and give it hell after you soak it in Tri Flow. Works wonders.

    Impact is ideal but if you don’t have a compressor and an impact wrench, a propane torch is certainly a cheaper option.

    Nothing wrong with using a torch, assuming that you have enough room to do so without risk of burning anything else.

    An 18” breaker bar also works wonders for these kinds of situations. Using a cheater pipe and a ratchet works but the swivel head of a breaker bar will let you reach some spots that you wouldn’t be able to with a ratchet. Sure, there’s universal joints for ratchets but those suck when you’re really leaning on the ratchet

    I haven't looked under my truck but I've seen some exhausts with the bolts pressed into the flange and only the nut is removed. I've also seen some where the nut is welded and only the bolt is removable.

    Can I also go against what is on the other posts and suggest not using an impact. I'd suggest a breaker bar or long ratchet and 6 point socket.

    It is the one where the nut is tack welded to the y pipe flange. The bolt has to come out.

    Looking to put in a new catback exhaust and found my bolts need to be replaced due to rust. I have search parts lost and it seems each diagram gives out different part numbers for the exhaust bolts. Ideally I would like to replace with stainless steel hardware to help prevent future rust issue. Does anyone have recommendations on part numbers I can replace with. Thank you
