I bought a water tank to mount in my spare tire well. I took my spare tire out and now use a RIGD system. My water tank I ordered from Ronco-plastics will need to be mounted under my bed but will need a skid plate. It’s pretty hard to find a fabricator that isn’t backed up for months these days. I live in East County San Diego Area. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could probably just order a sheet of steel in the dimensions you need. Just a square right? Drill holes and paint it, done. You could do it.

That actually sounds like a fun project. Hit me with a DM so I can get some details. I can get this done.

the implication that OP doesn't have a spare tire anymore really shows that you didn't even make it to the 2nd sentence of the post

To mount my grey tank under my trailer, I built an underslung cradle using 1"x1"x1/8" steel angle. For support and protection, I built it using 1/2" plywood front/back/bottom and 3/8" plywood on sides plus some galvanized sheet screwed to the outside. I insulated it with 1 1/2" of foam all the way around, but you probably aren't staying in freezing temps as long as I am....

So thanks to YouTube and everyone’s motivation on Tacomaworld, I ended up fabricating my own skid plate box and mount. My buddy did the hole cutting and got this project completed , mounted, and installed.

Looks good, showers for everyone! Read up on how to sanitize a drinking water tank and lines- most RV websites show how. Also important- have a good drain in it, you don’t want standing water.

That’s a grey water tank? Really? That’s a lot of sink water, what the heck? When dispersed camping, we just water the plants with ours or dump it in a hole while filtering out the solids for the trash.

The grey water tank in our trailer is a different thing- shower water and sink water, I’d never dump that out in the wild, it’s usefull for flushing the black water down the pipe at the dump station.

No. Fresh tank is consumption which is what this case is. Grey/black are used in trailers. Grey is sink & usually shower (though some do divert shower to black instead) and black is toilet. For camping, a 5gal bucket makes a good grey tank that you can go dump away from camping spots.
@imovelives, you may end up deciding that the spare tire rack would allow the tank to be higher up if it is removed. I don't know about you, but I know I have hit my hitch on the ground before. If that occurs, you have enough of the back side of the tank hanging below the hitch that you may cause a good bit of damage.

Forgot to mention. Make sure you put a serviceable filter on the vent line. That way you aren't sucking dust/dirt into the tank and bugs aren't able to get in.

Happy wife happy life. My wife likes to take showers when we are out in the middle of nowhere. It will hold 14 gallons. Last time we went out, I took 3 gallons plus another 4 and ran out on day 3.

It’s a fresh water tank. I painted it black because I didn’t like the white to stand out. I used raptor liner.
