Extension Wiring

I'm beginning to seriously consider adding a front off-road bumper to my rig.

My truck has the factory fog lights and I'd like to add fog lights to the new bumper.

Does anyone make extension cables that I can run from the factory location of the lights to lights in the bumper? That way I can can use the factory switch and not have to run new wires.

Why not just cut the existing wires before the connector, solder in the required length of wire, and solder the connector back on?

 

I could do that but I'd like a cleaner-looking installation.

 

The larger issue you'll have here is trying to make the stock fog lights fit on a new bumper.

Best solution is to cut/ solder new connections that work with the fog lights you'll get to fit the bumper. That's what I did, and probably what 100% of other users did too.

 

You can pick up extensions for not much. Chances are your new fogs will have Deutsche ("DT") connectors, so just pick up some H11 to DT pigtails.

But in whatever length you might need. FWIW I used a short (6") and it was plenty long enough to reach DD fogs in an ARB front.

 

Yes, but even if I buy aftermarket lights for the bumper I still want to be able to operate them from the factory switch and I'd rather not cut the factory connectors if I don't have to.
