Yup, called this morning for a trans service and they didn't even ask mileage just because 2009 they referred me to a local shop. Anyone else?

What?? They won't service it because it is too old? I don't understand.

Seems like they don't want your business.

For what it's worth - when I had my 2000 4runner a few years ago, I still took it to the Dealership every once in a while and they were more than happy to take my money and do the work.

Go someplace else. Call the dealer owner if you want to take it further. If they refuse still trash them on Google and Yelp and go to another dealer.

i don't know if i would trash them on yelp and google - maybe they just don't have the resource/help right now. still seems weird to turn down the job, but i'm not sure if i would go Karen on them.

What was the reason? Has the transmission been serviced before? My understanding is that anything beyond a spill and fill in a high mileage transmission that has not been serviced at proper intervals can be risky. But if this is the case they should say so.

I trashed a few businesses who took advantage of my elderly parents. If i checked them out ahead of time they wouldn't have used them (contractors) But gotta weed through the nasty people. When i say trash I am actually more constructive a reviewer.

I have an 09 4 cylinder Taco.55K..My toyota service department said I did not need it done as it was lifetime...Even the dipstick said not to replace the tranny fluid...I took it to an independent Toyota/Honda mechanic shop...They did a drain and fill and recommended doing that every 30 K..That's what I will do,

There is a big difference from won't service my truck and won't service my transmission on my 15 year old truck.

My dealer sort of shy's away from transmission services too. Causes too many headaches for them. Every Karen that asked for a flush and had issues after would be demanding a new transmission.
My dealer recommended I go to a transmission shop to get my transmission serviced. This was on my 15 Tacoma with 70k on it.

    I appreciated the honesty.

Move on and go to a transmission shop. The dealer is doing you a favor here.

This was my thought too. Sounds like the dealer could have done a better job explaining it though.

Maybe. All the Op had to do is ask why. I mean the dealer even gave him a recommended shop to go to.

When I had my clock spring recall done about 5 years ago I asked the dealer to do a Drain and fill on the transmission, they said the fluid is Toyota WS and its a lifetime fluid. that was at 150K Miles. The response sounded very scripted, so you might not have much luck with any other dealers.
I ended up doing 2 drain and fills a few months apart then a full flush with Valvoline Maxlife myself.

    Check these out.

I'm gonna guess they're stretched thin staff/technician wise and probably have a lot of warranty, recall, TSB etc repairs on their plate or are just simply too busy in general with the resources they have and are trying to catch up before taking on work they aren't required to take.

Agreed. Or maybe they did. We don't really know.

Yep. I think there are some missing words.

    That is a solid plan.

The good news is they did refer him on to a local shop to meet his request, as opposed just saying 'don't do that'.

I just had the dealership do a drain/fill with filter at 32,500 on my 2007 :notsure:
If they don't plan on doing the service they shouldn't list it to be done as a scheduled service by Toyota in their maintenance booklet.

Take what further? Shouldn't a business be allowed to take on whatever work they want and pass on the stuff they don't? they gave him a referral to another shop.. and you'd yelp them any way? Ugh..

The very definition of an entitled Karen
