I go through our cardboard bin at work and scrounge for the "good" boxes. Not the super puffy ones, and not the super flimsy ones. the "just right" ones. My more "suburban" coworkers don't seem to understand.

They just don't get it haha. I've grown preferential to the non-corrugated ones. When I bought my Lego M100RR-R it came in a REAL nice box. Almost chip-board like. I have that stashed for my next CAD project.

Going to my MSF course next weekend, and looking at bringing my own helmet and gloves. Any comments/gripes on either of these? Not trying to blow the bank on my first iteration of stuff, but also don't want to go cheap.

Alpinestars is a quality brand, don't think you'll have any problems with them, the Booster V2's were my first glove as well that I took to my MSF course. You're in Salt Lake though, so may want to go for a bit of a heavier glove since it'll probably be cold? Up to you though and what you can stand.

IDK much about Sedici but I believe they're a CycleGear/Revzilla exclusive brand? Any helmet that meets DOT and either Snell/Sharp/ECE qualifications will do you right so look for those. I would also suggest going into a store to try on helmets so that you don't waste time ordering and returning based on size. Make sure you can try on the helmet you are looking at, different brands have different sizings within each size, and also head shapes.

I have that same helmet and I have been very happy with it as my first helmet so far. I'd second the plan of trying on some helmets, I was planning to buy a large until I went and tried mine on and turns out a medium fits just right for me. Not too tight but nice and snug.

I also have a similar set of Alpinestars gloves that have been great.

I think both of those are a great place to start.

Yeah, I have a Cycle Gear about 5 mins from my house so I was perusing their "in stock" items. Mainly for ability to test fit like you said.

SLC is def chilly this time of year, but come July, it'll be 100+ so trying to figure out a good mix. I'll likely be more of a fair weather street rider knowing myself, so I'm not super concerned about ultra cold weather snivel gear.

I over prepare so I have different gear for all kinds of weather lol.

I will say, your hands can get colder than you think if you plan on riding at highway speeds, but for your MSF course I'm sure those will be just fine since you don't really go over 20-25mph. Even at 55 degress on a sunny day, my summer gloves aren't viable for more than 15-20 mins. But I could just have frail hands lol. Those will definitely be great summer gloves though.

Might not work for you but I used cheap dirt bike gloves and dirt bike helmet when I took the MAF like 16 or so years ago I think.

They’re no good for a high speed crash on the highway. But for doing laps in a little circle in a parking lot they offered good hand feel and good visibility/lightweight/sunglasses I was used to. If you have anywhere you can borrow or rent that’d be cool too.

It may be wrong of me, but my last iteration of helmet shopping for me and the wife involved ordering several from Revzilla and keeping the two that fit best and sending the rest back.

Fit is so personal it’s hard to know what will feel right without trying a few on. Good luck!

Thanks. I don't have any proper moto gear, street or MX, just mountain bike stuff, so I'm sorta starting from a blank page on all that. I know enough moto folks to sorta know where to start, but it'll def be a learning experience. Unfortunately, they all live elsewhere so borrowing stuff for a weekend isn't really feasible.

Thats fair, I often get hot hands while riding my mountain bikes, but thats active cardio, so not quite the same as street riding. I'll def keep that as a factor, since I think you're right that I may be trying to overestimate myself comfortwise.

I have a pair of Speed & Strength gloves that I could ship you. Perforated palms, solid leather on knuckles. I can shoot you a text with actual picture of them if you want. Size XL I believe. I could ship on saturday morning

@spencermarkd how much would you pay for a pair of MotoZ Tractionator GPS tires with a couple thousand miles on them?

I got an Arai you could borrow if you want to cover shipping to and from but it probably wouldn’t be there by the time you need it.

Thanks, David. I was gonna swing by the shop tomorrow afternoon, so that'd let me at least figure out what size I need, since they have S&S gloves there. I got your digits so I'll hit you up if they'll fit me. I'm usually a L or XL depending on brand so sounds like we may have a winner.

I filled up my truck today and looked at the price. 3.63 for regular, $55 to fill from 1/4 tank. I don't really drive anymore though. :pout:

For gloves I’d second that you’d want something relatively “thin” for the MSF class. Most people that aren’t used to wearing gloves don’t know what it’s like to lose the dexterity with thick gloves and you want to limit your challenges as much as possible. A single layer leather glove with precurved fingers will offer plenty of protection with little dexterity loss. Knuckle protection and palm padding are a plus for when you start riding regularly.
