Hey guys, so I just put in the Tekansha Voyager control brake on my 2008 Tacoma. It was relatively easy, got the plug and play adapter and hooked it all up real quick. Green light is on the the controller. Everything seemed fine but as soon as I started down the road to go get everything set, the brake light on my truck is on and is dinging intermittently. Does anyone know what the $&@@!! Is going on. I’m stumped

Are you saying your red brake warning light is on or your actual brake lights are on?

I believe it dings if you go above 3mph with the parking brake engaged.

The brake light on the dashboard. First thing I checked was the E brake it’s totally disengaged. It got cold and dark yesterday so I hung it up. First thing I’m going to try is just disconnect the trailer brake controller and see what happens.

Well it definitely seems to be the emergency break because I was down there messing around when I put in the trailer brake controller but I can’t figure out what’s going on it’s disengaged but it’s still going off. Any ideas of what I can do

Hey everyone, just wanted to let y’all know I figured out the problem with my emergency brake. First I have to rewind a little because when I was looking for the pigtail for the plug n play I found an adapter already plugged into it from the original owner. Everything was in tact including an xtra wire that I assumed was the ground, but it didn’t match the trailer brake controller that I had so I took everything out except the ground. as the adapter I had was relatively the same and had the xtra wire for a ground as well. So rather than just find somewhere to run a new ground i spliced into what a thought was the ground from the old adapter, so I buttoned everything up made sure I had a constant green light to the controller for electric continuity which I had so cool everything was good to go. Well turns out that “ground wire” was a wire that went up and attached the emergency brake. What it’s for I have no idea but it wasn’t connected to anything before I spliced into it so I just disconnected it, reran the ground and voila!! Problem solved. Now if anyone can tell me what the wire coming from the e brake is for that would solve a mystery. Thanks for all your input.

Do 2008 trucks have daytime running lights? On 3rd Gens, the parking brake activates and cancels the DRLs, so possibly that is the wire for it.

Huh? Makes me wonder why it was cut and wrapped up with the rest of wires from the old harness. Shenanigans!!!

This is the parking brake circuit.

Body ECU >> Parking Brake Switch >> Ground

So if you tied the ground wire into the Green/yellow wire then you would have thge symptoms you described: Brake light on and dinging chime when moving.

maybe previous owner had a switch to bypass the parking brake for something, example is that head unit won’t play the dvd or navigate change unless parking brake engaged?
